    No cock on close is not a spec, it is a preference for some people. Others may like some cock on close. I think when the first ARC action was announced, they offered a couple of choices of how you wanted it timed.

    The cocking piece doesn't move forward. It is the bolt shroud that moves back when the bolt is closed. The bolt shroud is screwed into the bolt body. When the bolt is closed, the shroud is unscrewed about 1/4 turn. The thread size is 1/2" diameter x 13 threads per inch. 1/4 turn on that size...

    You need to check the pin fall and the cock on close of each individual action to determine what it needs. There is likely nothing to be gained. I doubt 406shootist has ever timed a Defiance action.

    The timing on a Defiance is as good as it gets. It will have about .020" cock on close. That is perfect for my desires.

    I like Defiance actions. My favorite short one is the Deviant GA Hunter. I don't know if I will be buying another one at the current price.

    Some of the Defiance actions have sloppy bolt stops when they are new.

    6.5/7 PRC Thoughts

    I did a similar cartridge. I necked a 7mm Blaser down to a 6.5mm but left the barrel 26" long. I had an issue with the stock I was going to use so I shelved the barreled action. It is still laying on the shelf waiting for a stock. I had forgotten about it until I read this.
