Bore patches absolutely will not come out clean :-(

3 rifles I’ve been shooting the last couple of years shot much tighter groups after putting quite a few rounds through them . Besides I got lazier with cleaning them. ? Luckily it has not been a detriment.

Calculated recoil, which numbers matter most?

The ones that pain you the most.

Bore patches absolutely will not come out clean :-(

Used to clean after every firing. Don’t do it any more. My rifles shoot very accurately. I bet if I take out all the layers you describe I might have to shoot many rounds to get back the accuracy I had before removing them.

Interesting that so many folks engage in various competitions. No doubt there are many good shooters posting in this forum. Quite impressive actually. Growing up in Brooklyn we learned how to duck in case the bullets are coming your way. So I know I’m excellent at ducking-lol. Probably not an...

What are the most reliable, trust-with-your-life firearms out there?

A double barrel shotgun or double barrel rifle are probably the least likely firearms to fail. That’s why many dangerous game guides use them. Ironically a derringer is reliable too. Then you have to figure a revolver. Pump shotguns would be next. Semi autos offer the most firepower. If high...

    Re using pulled bullets?

Use them for foulers or plinkers if they are heavily marked and you are concerned. Some folks will even use lightly marked bullets in matches; barring the anal retentive control freaks.

Bore patches absolutely will not come out clean :-(

I always used Hoppes and cleaned after every day of shooting. Over the years I clean less and use various solvents. One way or another they all work. When my patches come out clean I know the firearm is clean. I avoid caustic solvents for the most part. If I think there may be excessive copper...

    300 WSM Barrel life?

So an apprentice at my gunsmith said my 325wsm should get 300 rounds. I told him I already put 400 rounds through two rifles of that caliber as I left them with him to put muzzle brakes on. The gunsmith put a bore scope through them and said they were in excellent condition. I called Browning...

Advanced Marksmanship Question - Positioning Butt of Rifle on Shoulder

I know this was 10 years ago but I just read this and have to comment. Maybe you noticed that your neck and head are in the middle of your torso. The shoulder is closer to the ends of the torso. How in the world can you say your head would be leaning more if the butt was closer to the middle...

Okay to share brass between 2 rifles?

Better not to mix brass if they are precision rifles. Keep in mind it may take brass two to three firings to fully form to the chamber. And brass hardness evolves changing the springback. Bullet seating depths may come into play also. And I thought this reloading thing would be fairly simple-LOL.

I'm new to this forum.Nice to see offhand shooting is not a lost skill. I have not seen anyone shooting offhand at my gun club in PA. and FL. Nor at any of the public ranges. I find it more challenging and satisfying. Can anyone tell me what the NRA and military 10 rings are at 200 yards(and...
