    270 WSM Users....

Re: 270 WSM Users.... You're on the right track. I like the 140 and 150 SST's and any of the Berger VLD's for longer range shooting in my personal 270 Win. I learned on a 270 Win with the 135 SMK's and they will shoot well. Mag Pro has yielded the highest velocity I have found in the 270 WSM...

    H870 and the 264WinMag help........

Re: H870 and the 264WinMag help........ It will work. Hodgdon shows 63.5 grains as max for Retumbo. With a reloading software I have, it shows 74 grains of H870 as near max with a 140 SST. It might be hard to get that much in that case. I have used H50BMG in the 7 Mag with the 180 VLD's many...

    Suppressors .300wm - TigerShark - 30p-1 - 300TM

Re: .300wm - TigerShark - 30p-1 - 300TM I own and shoot a Shark Tiger Shark on my 300WM, as well as for my 260 Rem and AR's in 223 and blk out. Yes, it's bigger and heavier, and for good reason. The tube is thicker which handles the pressure better. His can also disipates heat better. We have...

    More powder = less speed????

Re: More powder = less speed???? One of two things is happening. My first guess is a chrono error. Was the sun at a steep angle to the side when testing the last loads? Are you running a shooting Chrony chrono? If yes to either of these, it's your chrono. Test them when the sun won't be at...

Shot 260 for first time today

Re: Shot 260 for first time today A brand new rifle often takes 75 to 150 rounds before you will see the actual velocity. When my Bartelin was brand new, it was running 120 fps slower than all loads posted with the same charge. 100 rounds later, I was running what I expected. Give it some...

    Boolit choice for 300 WM

Re: Boolit choice for 300 WM Only powder changes. I seat the bullet close to the rifling, within .010" normally. If I can't get it to shoot by altering the powder charge, then I'll change the seating depth and switch powders. If it's a vld bullet with a secant ogive, I'll seat it touching the...

    270 Win Powder and Bullets?

Re: 270 Win Powder and Bullets? On a side note, the 270 is not very picky on what powder it likes. If you pick a powder in the same burn rate as 4350 or 4831, it should shoot well. Just test some loads and see what it likes.

Range Report Ladder Test @ 300 yards. Advice/Interpretations

Re: Ladder Test @ 300 yards. Advice/Interpretations Here is a typical target that I see when I am doing my load work-ups. I shoot 5 rounds in 1 charge weight and see how it does, and go up from there. You can see the groups and the consistancy improves with each increase in load. When you are...

Range Report Ladder Test @ 300 yards. Advice/Interpretations

Re: Ladder Test @ 300 yards. Advice/Interpretations IMO, fliers are caused from other reasons, like poor brass prep, different neck tensions, and anything related to the components. If you are shooting in your node, you should not get the fliers. The fliers I have seen were traced back to...

    Boolit choice for 300 WM

Re: Boolit choice for 300 WM Here's a typical target from a load work up I do. This was shot at 300 yards. You can see the groups get better and better as I go up in charge. The top right group ended up being .8 inch at 300 yards. This was done with 19 rounds on target, and 2 sighters at 100...

    Boolit choice for 300 WM

Re: Boolit choice for 300 WM Yes, you have to shoot slow. It takes me about 5 minutes to shoot 5 rounds when testing loads. Then I wait 15-20 minutes for the barrel to cool. Then I'll shoot the next test group. It takes me about 1.5 hours to shoot 25 rounds when I'm testing loads on most...

    270 Win Powder and Bullets?

Re: 270 Win Powder and Bullets? I've always had good luck with IMR4350 with the 130's. For the 140 and 150 grain bullets, R22 has been awesome on accuracy and given top speed. I use 4064 for my 100 grain loads with top velocity.

Range Report Ladder Test @ 300 yards. Advice/Interpretations

Re: Ladder Test @ 300 yards. Advice/Interpretations Why not just load up 4 or 5 rounds in each charge weight at the high end of the powder charge and see how they group? It's much simpler and you won't waist range trips. Forget the ladder method.

    300 blackout loading

Re: 300 blackout loading I have played with 6 different powders for my 300 blk out ammo. When it came to the subsonic ammo, I had the hardest time finding a good powder and load combination that worked. I finally found a good one. It is with a powder not listed on any reloading data sheets or...

.260 at 2.8" OAL Which bullets?

Re: .260 at 2.8" OAL Which bullets? 140 A-max or 142 SMK. The 140 VLD's you can try, but they most likely won't shoot as consistant as the other 2. The 123 would be a good choice for closer in work, and be decent for the longer range stuff.
