    6.5 Grendel

Certainly not the only way to go, but have been a very consistent performer in multiple Grendel builds that I keep in regular rotation. Different ogival shape than the sleeker 123 Scenar/Sierras, so may require deeper seating depth to stay at least .020 off the lands, but very acceptable...

    6.5 Grendel

I do use about an 8” drop tube, which helps but doesn’t totally address powder settling. In this specific instance, the Proof 20” barrel I shoot more than others requires seating 120 Scenar L’s at 2.225 to stay about .020-.025 off lands. That ogival shape is significantly different than 123...

    6.5 Grendel

I use AR Comp as my ‘go to’ powder for Grendel and understand the compression issue. Not sure how anyone manages 28gr under almost any bullet, as 28 leaves neck about half full. Have gotten 123 Nosler CC’s and 120 Ballistic Tips over 27.4gr with good results, but that’s about my limit for...

    6.5 Grendel

What powder is maxing you out at 27-28gr? 4895, Varget or possibly AR Comp at 27.5+, but certainly not Lever, CFE223 or most of the ball powders-unlikely.

Bullet Recommendations for .308 JP 18" 1:11.25 barrel.

On the other end of the spectrum, I had and sold to a member here a 308 11:25 twist Schneider barrel that shot anything 155gr with Varget, 8208 or AR Comp into one very respectable hole. Lapua, Sierras or Hornady-didn’t matter. Gun just digested everything in that range.

    6.5 Grendel

Not that this discussion isn’t entertaining and educational, though as it’s ceased to be related to Grendel in any manner, why not move the debate to the semi auto forum where an equally informed group can add their wisdom and experience. And now back to regularly scheduled programming?

Nothing like a brand new rusted barrel, didn't even need to scope this one! :)

I’ve got a 22” Grendel SS barrel that shoots very well. Stainless doesn’t rust unless under unusual circumstances, but the gas port is a non starter for me in a new barrel. Send it back-they should make it right.

    6.5 Grendel

Too fast for 130’s. Best with lighter weight bullets in Grendel. See attached burn rate reference. You might look at 2520, VV powders, 748, Power Pro Varmint, even old school BLC2. Best to be on the slower side of 335 for sure. You should also check out the 65Grendel site ‘preferred loads’...

    6.5 Grendel

Warnera-you’re not hijacking a thread, we’re all here to learn and shoot smarter. Once you’re at the perimeter of bullets weights outside of the original cartridge designers intent, some compromises are sure to surface. Think the Grendel’s sweet spot is in the 107/108-120/123 range. Want more...

    6.5 Grendel

Works in a Grendel-know another shooter who shoots them very successfully at 1K, though its real sweet spot is in the 6.5CM.

    6.5 Grendel

Good info, and what appears to be good process. Couple of things that come to mind-That’s a pretty stout load of Varget-2 gr over a max per Nosler data for 130gr bullets, but we all know most factory can be somewhat conservative, and if cases or primer pockets are showing pressure, may be an...

    6.5 Grendel

A thought provoking discussion about internal and external ballistics, no doubt, and worthy of its own thread. However, seems like Basic could give us a bit more info about the actual load details of the loads generating these widely disparate numbers, if we’re to be of any value to his...

    6.5 Grendel

As much as I’m a believer in AR Comp for bullets in the 107-123gr range, it might be a bit too fast to extract everything you might want out of 129-130gr bullets. Have not experimented enough with heavier bullets yet to say what’s the absolute best powder for the job, and have used both CFE and...

    6.5 Grendel

More today, with my favored load with 120 Scenars, 27.0gr AR Comp and CCI450’s. ARC just seems to deliver consistency across multiple Grendel barrels from 18-24”. This from a 22” Wilson Combat build.
