    Which barrel.

I would always have a hard time turning down a bartlein, it would be close to a toss up for some of the other Wisconsin-made cut rifled barrels but not a hard decision for a button rifled barrel even at the same money, but cheaper and a guarantee of 3/8", Get it in a box and on ts way to...

IF you were going to sell powder in this market

In the past I have given friends/people I trust to follow through reloading supplies that they replace when things become more sane, I tend to maintain good stock when the prices are normal. This is the way I would like to be treated if they had the ability to help me out if I were in their...

Use a grain mill to make your own tumbling media.

I just buy corn cob grit in 50 pound bags from a snad blasting supply company, I think the last bag cost me less than $15, 50 pounds of tumbling media lasts me a long time. You can also get walnut media at sand blasting supply houses if that is your desired media.

Range Report MV for M118LR from short barrels - 18-20"?

While working DARPA's OneShot program I shot a lot of M118LR from the XM3 (18.5 inch barrel IIRC) that would not reach a 1,000 yards at sea level supersonically. At a range just west of Perry I would test it at 800 meters and that was the edge of supersonics, I would fire some and all the holes...

    Special Pricing on Machine Work

Mailed a rem 700 off for truing to Deep South Tactical yesterday, at $100 and the list of operations it is a good deal. The action I sent I got on a fire sale from Midway, I imagine the action was sold off as Remington was making its last gasp just prior to bankruptcy.

    Special Pricing on Machine Work

Sorry to be a PITA, but what should I include for return shipping in addition to the $100 for truing up a rem 700? I will get the action in the mail today or tomorrow. Thanks wade

Hunting Bullet for 18" 6.5CM Tikka

I have taken quite a few deer with 130 g Accubonds in my old Swede (made in late 1800's) chambered in 6.5x55 which I kept the pressures down as it is was not designed for modern pressures. I only retrieved one bullet and it retained about 75% of the weight and the deer went about 10 feet, all...

Best precision rifle available on a budget

Good advice above so I will just add a little tidbit, precision and Zastava M70 is rarely used in the same sentence. The M70 is commercial Mauser 98 and make great hunting guns for a number of reasons but getting them to shoot what we think of as precision today is not easy nor cheap. Before...

    Need remington bolt, or body

I second the rec to get a bolt from PT&G, I ordered a two piece long action bolt from them about a month ago and it was delivered in two weeks. I mention the delivery as it sounds from many posts that PT&G will screw up all orders. I only order from them about 5 times a year and have only had...

    What’s with the .gov fetish

I spent a while working as a systems engineer for three different companies ranging from small to the largest and found that the requirements for some programs do not start out from scratch. Many times an engineer will look around the documentation library for the program that is closest to the...

Stripper clip guides for Rem 700

Go to LRI's web site Chad used to do these and I assume he still does clip slots since it is programmed into his CNC.

Barrel Making, why so many in Wisconsin

I will risk the wrath of all barrle manufactures when I let this cat out of the bag. The secret ingredient to the cutting fluid used in making fine barrels is extremely fresh beer delivered within minutes of finishing at the brewery, Wisconsin traditionally had big breweries so the barrel...

1000+ in east Tennessee? Or even 500+?

I shot a LR F-classs match at Oak Ridge and found it to be one of the nicest ranges I have been to, and very nice folks also.

Gunsmithing Am I out of line? Build problems

I stand corrected in your case, but I see many going the local route.

Gunsmithing Am I out of line? Build problems

I don't understand the hesitancy to shipping a rifle and/or parts to a well known gunsmith and using a local 'smith with a less known reputation. I have nothing against using local smiths that are not big names as there are a lot of people out there running small shops doing outstanding work...

    Gunsmithing Recoil lug question

Go to any machinist and have them put the replacement lug on a surface grinder and take it down 0.008" very easy for any machine shop to do no need for a gunsmith.
