Well, 3.5 years and +/- 14000 rounds later, I think my .22 mag gave up the ghost.

Do want to know the secret to amazing accuracy with 22wmr? Get closer to what y'er aiming at. :sneaky: It's the most effective advice given to me, when I first started chasing small game. Gramps knew what he was talking about. ;)

More alcohol maybe? Too much already?

    Maggie’s Motivational Pic Thread v2.0 - - New Rules - See Post #1

I rebooted my phone this evening, that Motorola logo bothers me. Is that Yosemite Sam's eyebrows? Boobs in a cone bra? Or a couple about to go at it doggy? I can't unsee those possibilities now, can I? :(

    0.5 MOA guarantee…

Y'er right Trung....except I'd probably be attempting it at 200 yards, so I could post a single 3 shot group at 200 yards, then claim "all day long!" ;)

    0.5 MOA guarantee…

3 shot guarantee 0.5 moa at 50 yards...that's do-able. Doesn't say consecutive groups, just that the barrel is capable of a 3 shot 0.25" center to center group. Even I can accomplish that with my factory barrel CZ 455 Varmint, using bulk Fed 36 grain CPHP. Might have to spend a couple...

Well, 3.5 years and +/- 14000 rounds later, I think my .22 mag gave up the ghost.

:sneaky: According to the internet, it's not the ammo, y'er rifle just doesn't like that brand. According to the folks that take the time to inspect, compare and chronograph their cartridges, the 22wmr is bulk hunting ammunition intended for offhand use, not benchrest precision paper...

Well, 3.5 years and +/- 14000 rounds later, I think my .22 mag gave up the ghost.

What hlee said...22wmr cartridges are made by CCI/Speer, Winchester, Aguila, Armscor, S&B and RWS. Remington, Norma, Federal and FiocchiUSA are relabeled CCI. Browning is relabeled Winchester. Not even the RWS made cartridges are manufactured to be precision paper punching cartridges. Offhand...

    Bergara B-14R in 22WMR vs. 17HMR?

Expect 2 inches of spread at 100 yards, average, with both. Sometimes you get a 1/2 inch 5 shot group, other times a 3.5 inch group...2 inch average. There are no match cartridges made in 17 hmr or 22 wmr. CCI and Winchester are the only makers of 17 hmr cartridges. CCI, Winchester, Armscor...

Well, 3.5 years and +/- 14000 rounds later, I think my .22 mag gave up the ghost.

I'd want to run a borescope through it and check for wear just forward of the leade. Slugging the bore would determine if there was a major loose spot there. It is possible for a rimfire chew up the rifling after a large number of rounds fired. Never fired large quantities of 22wmr, no idea of...

Expected Accuracy for Range/Practice Rimfire Ammo (outside at 50, 100, 200)

I hear ya' RT, but ya' gotta remember....I cheat. :D I shoot either prone, or off a bench, at a range with 20 foot plus tall berms on 3 sides. Then I wait for a decent day with minimal winds to mess me up. And my 32X Mueller might have better resolution than y'er antique Unertl, eh? ;)

Expected Accuracy for Range/Practice Rimfire Ammo (outside at 50, 100, 200)

Half the distance, one third the spread Or Double the distance will triple the spread. Bulk hi-v 22lr at 200 yards, 12 inches spread for 50 consecutive shots. Plinking standard velocity at 200 yards, 10 inches spread. Practice SV 22 LR will show 8 inches at 200 yards. Decent SV 22lr will...

Effects of bore quality on ES and SD???

I don't believe barrel length can improve ES or SD. That's a function of burn rate/chamber pressure/atmospheric conditions, right? Could barrel quality affect velocities also? I think it would be proportional barrel to barrel. How would you eliminate normal cartridge variations from the data?

The whole box at 100 yards

Keeping rimfire sub 1.5 inches at 100 yards for 50 consecutive shots is difficult. With wind and mass produced cartridges, it's unlikely to happen. Holding center is easy with a target reticle and 24X scope. But atmospheric conditions and cartridge component/assembly variations, means trajectory...

    Norma Long range

Lot number is pressed into the end flap of the box. Should be visible in an angled/reflected light source. Y'er results are what I expected Milo, just based on price per cartridge. It's not benchrest quality ammunition.

New RWS R Plus Long Range ammo

I hear ya' M. I don't subscribe to rifle preference. I found that well made cartridges with tight muzzle velocities will produce the best results from all my rifles. Any variations in results are due to differences in cartridges, or conditions. No two cartridges are identical, so no two...

New RWS R Plus Long Range ammo

Price was on European ammo sites. Nothing available on this side of the Atlantic. With Norma selling the relabeled cartridge at 10 bucks a box, basically half the price of R50, I don't have a positive outlook. If the stuff was as magic as claimed, the demand would kick the price higher than...

New RWS R Plus Long Range ammo

Reading the test data linked above, "based on average of 3 five shot groups." There's my problem. Small sample sizes lead to incorrect conclusions. I'd want to see 10 five shot groups, across a chronograph, including conditions and aggregate 50 shot group size . Then I want to see it repeated a...

New RWS R Plus Long Range ammo

I'm not optimistic that results downrange will match the hype. Why? Price per cartridge indicates it is not RWS's best 22lr. It's a gimmick cartridge to pry into the wallets of optimists. If it was capable of consistent accuracy at extended range, then results at 50 yards would be equal to a...

    Line on case below shoulder

Y'er case chamfering tool is rubbing on the exterior of y'er brass. Place the chamfering tool on y'er brass, look at where the contact point is on the bottom edge. Touches right at the visible ring on the brass. Bottom edge of tool and brass rotation equals bright line.

    22 accuracy expectations ?

Mosin, the reason for group movement is cartridge variations and wind. Trust y'er ability to hold center, it really is y'er ammo and the changing conditions that affects the results. If y'er cross hairs are wandering even before you squeeze yeah, then it is you, but when you ride out the shot...
