Need a first rifle for my son

Nothing makes you more accountable for your shots than having to pump the damn thing 7 or 8 times every time you pull the trigger. As for blurring the line between firearm and toy, they're firearms (always in practice, and in some locations, by law). I would stay away from anything centerfire...

Rifleman’s Team Challenge Snipers Unknown Challenge

Weird, that one works. I need to brush up on my internet protocols, but it likely has to do with the 'www.' not being included in the website name that was submitted to the DNS server. From what I recall, current internet protocols no longer require 'www.' to be included in the web address...

So here's a dilemma that I'm sure most of us have faced-

When looking at all the people and possessions in this world, only a very small percentage of them make you happy and are worth keeping around. If you enjoy taking your revolver out of the case and holding it, that is just as valid as enjoying shooting it. Some people collect stamps to brighten...

Best place to buy Proof barrels: Evolved Ballistics

Can't comment on Evolved due to lack of personal experience, but I just ordered a Proof CF from Stocky's (stockysstocks.com) last week and had it in my hands 4 business days later. They picked up the phone on the second ring, and were very helpful. Sounds like they also have them on...

    Proof Barrel PreFit

One thing to point out about carbon barrels is that they are not actually incredibly light. If you watch some YouTube reviews or read certain magazine articles, it almost sounds as if the authors are trying to tell us that the barrels are filled with helium and lift the rest of the rifle up...

    Proof Barrel PreFit

I think you might be working off old info. Although the first few barrels seemed to have their issues with wandering (and several other CF brands such as CA still have those issues), Proof apparently fixed those issues quickly, and in the last few years have proven themselves through testing and...

For the capable, experienced, non-combatant sportsman shooting steel or paper targets is there a significant objective reason to choose a $7K AI over

He seems to be keen on making the comparison, and member are dutifully informing him of what the extra cash gets him in capability. It is completely legitimate to compare things in different price ranges.

For the capable, experienced, non-combatant sportsman shooting steel or paper targets is there a significant objective reason to choose a $7K AI over

Based on the prices OP quoted, and because he hasn’t stated he was altering those numbers even after several posts about ATs, it seemed appropriate.

For the capable, experienced, non-combatant sportsman shooting steel or paper targets is there a significant objective reason to choose a $7K AI over

The price difference is easily equal to 2-3000 rounds of ammo (caliber dependent, obviously), or the cost of some good training. Just a thought.

    Proof Barrel PreFit

Stockystocks.com has Savage prefits in stock and I was able to get free shipping. Just placed the order yesterday. Opticsplanet.com also has a few in stock, but I would double check exactly how ‘in stock’ it is before you purchase. Most of them were in stock when I looked, but a few were a 2-4...

Thanks @bschneiderheinze and @CV_Ag ! Has anyone had any experience ordering from Proof for their steel barrels?

    Ordering a Barrel

Hey Everyone, I'm very confused about the actual process of ordering a precision barrel. Let me preface this by saying that almost all of my experience with building/replacing parts on firearms is with AR-15s, where most of the parts fit every gun, and every barrel I've ever seen is ready to...

American Rifle Company New Archimedes Action, New Xylo Chassis, and major Mausingfield revision

Hey everyone, thought I'd share this reply from the ARC sales team describing the main differences of their 3 actions. It cleared up some confusion I had as to the practical differences of all the techno-babel listed in the specs. Straight from ARC: "The Archimedes has a a bolt that acts upon...

Rifle Scopes Viper PST Gen II vs Steiner T5XI

What about a comparison to a Gen 1 Razor? I have options to get a Gen 1 Razor for about $1300, but I'm willing to step up to the Steiner if it seems worth it. I'm trying to apply the 'buy once, cry once' philosophy to my build. Will be doing 1000yds+. Thanks, Ken

    Good(?) Article on Barrel Length

@spaniel Thanks for the reply! I was thinking the same thing with regards to him kind of brushing off 15% velocity loss, and also how he so casually says that it shouldn’t affect the difficulty/necessary precision of wind calls... I hadn’t thought of the use of .308 making a difference, but...
