You have $10,000. What do you build?

I'd get into night vision with a good PVS 14, maybe a thermal scope, a laser pointer.

To cut or not to cut

My handloads are quite warm with this rifle, bordering on hot. With the addition of the suppressor, will that increase the pressure enough to potentially cause problems? I'm guessing so. Will shortening the barrel change this in any way? I'm assuming I'm going to need to go back to the...

What is the right twist rate for a .308 and why?

MontanaMarine has a thread here about shooting 208gr A-MAX bullets out of his 1:12 308. They seem to work fine for him. I use a 1:11 twist on mine and that works great for 168 and 175gr bullets. The tighter twist will certainly stabilize the lighter bullets, but you may end up with higher...

To cut or not to cut

Thanks for all the replies so far. I really like my rifle the way it is, with the 25" barrel. My concern about chopping the barrel is how it will affect the trans-sonic performance/range, as I want it to be able to reach out beyond 1000yd. Yes, I know a 308 is not ideal for those distances...

To cut or not to cut

I need some advise. I have a custom Remington 700 308 with a 25" Bartlein barrel that shoots great. I get 2700fps out of it with FGMM 175 SMK, and 2760 fps with my handloads. I have decided to get a Surefire SOCOM 762 RC can that I want to use on it. The can will serve across multiple 308...

    308 AR recommendations

Lately I've been considering an AR10 platform rifle as well. From what I've read here and elsewhere, my top choice is the LMT MWS. KAC would be nice, but it is far out of my budget. And I'm not convinced it is any more accurate than the LMT. Dependability is a key factor for me. I think...

    DD MK12 or BCM MK12?

Don't expect an AR platform to have the same accuracy as a bolt gun. Especially for varmint use. Most of these "accurized" AR15s shoot about 1MOA or just a little over. Sure there are the occasional exception that will do better, but most claims for such are "optimistic" at best--3-5 shot...

New Tipped Matchking "TMK" loads from BHA??

I'm looking forward to when these become available as reloading components!

LMT MWS Adopted by New Zealand

So the BUIS set is Surefire, not Dueck Defense? The muzzle device is a Surefire brake, not a flash hider? Thanks.

LMT MWS Adopted by New Zealand

Sorry to raise this thread from the depths of time, but I have a few questions about the specs: 1. I know they went with the 20" version instead of the 16" like the Brits, but is the barrel a SS or CL barrel? 2. The scope appears to be a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-15 x 50mm M3, but which reticle did...

    MK12 Mod 0/1 or KAC SR15 LPR 18"

I think a lot of it depends on what you really want. If you are into the "clone" thing, then the Mk12 is the answer. However, to complete it properly, you are looking at closer to $4000 (suppressor, optics, etc). They shoot very well, but if all you want is an accurate shooting AR15, then...

Thinking of rebarreling M1A SOCOM 16 with precision barrel

To make an M1A more accurate, you will need to do a LOT more than just re-barrel it. You may want to research this a bit more before making your decision. I don't remember all that needs to be done, but from what I do remember, they become money pits--bedding the stock, match trigger, match...

Heaviest 30 cal. round (High BC) for the 308 Winchester in a Semi-Auto??

FCS beat me to it. Reloading for gas guns (read "semi-auto"--even piston guns are "gas guns") is not like reloading for bolt guns. The points he lists above are very real considerations that must be factored in. The gas system, whether direct impingement or piston, will be affected by the...

Very nicely done. Now all you need is the 12th model ;-)

Sidearms & Scatterguns Please Help Me Decide

NW MT about 1:30 south of GNP. I shoot Glocks well enough, but being used to thumbing down the safety as I present the firearm, is a habit I'm developing. The long double-action first trigger pull gives me pause, as I find my finger tends to pull the pistol to the side as I pull the trigger...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Please Help Me Decide

Please help me decide. I am looking at a semi-auto hand gun to carry with me while backpacking in bear country to back up my bear spray. Ergonomically, I just don't care for revolvers, so please don't advise getting a 44 Mag. revolver. I just don't like them and don't shoot them well. I much...

    Lmt cqb16

Depends. I like flatter BUISs. If money wasn't an option, I'd go with a set of KAC--folding front sight (but it's close to $200 just for that), and a KAC 300m in back. The 300 is simple and functional, and low profile enough for my tastes. The 200-600 in the back is also nice. Trouble is...

A good optic, depending on your particular needs. The BUIS is good and strong, but bulky. I would change these to flip-up if using a scope. I like the SOPMOD stock. I like the Ergo Grip. A bipod can be helpful if you are doing a lot of bench or prone shooting.

That's a great price, and LMT is top notch. I think you'll be happy, and I'm sure if you decide to sell, you will get your money back.
