NRA Patriot Profile -The St. of Gambier Bay

Re: NRA Patriot Profile -The St. of Gambier Bay After watching this presentation, I was struck by the fact that in spite of the horrific events these men and women went through and survived, they managed to contribute and built the nation that we enjoy today. They are America's greatest...

ARMY Guys: If you knew then what you know now

Re: ARMY Guys: If you knew then what you know now With a slightly opposing point of view - I'd talk to your nephew about where he sees himself at the end of his enlistment. Hack out a plan for 5, 10, 15 years down the line. Review every year and adjust fire. Army careers are developed and...

    Backpack for bow/rifle hunting

Re: Backpack for bow/rifle hunting Don't know that it's better but I use a Eberlestock X1A1. It's already configured for bow carry with a quick release. It'll also hold my Rem 700 with scope at the same time along with binos, spotting scope, tripod, food and stuff for overnight. I've got...

Hunting & Fishing Field watches and Alarms

Re: Field watches and Alarms I use the same one I've used for the last two tours - Seiko Automatic Divers. Self-winding and no audible alarm. Can't count the times someone's alarm went off on a patrol. Not good if you're out stalking or in a tree stand.

Gunsmithing Interesting problem with an AR buffer retainer

Re: Interesting problem with an AR buffer retainer Axeman, Thanks, will forward the link to my friend and see what he wants to do. HB - copy on the liability issue. Will also tell him to think about a new lower. Thanks all

Gunsmithing Interesting problem with an AR buffer retainer

Re: Interesting problem with an AR buffer retainer Thanks HB, the BCG does not push the buffer back as the receiver closes. Looking from the top at the retainer, you can tell it's set back towards the tube. Was thinking if I added a spacer or buffer to the back end of the BCG to push the...

Gunsmithing Interesting problem with an AR buffer retainer

A buddy of mine asked me to look over his AR - wasn't cycling properly and had sighting issues. Long story short - this was a frankenstein piece together. Fixed the sighting problem - operator error, but while checking his buffer I noticed it looked like a rat chewed the edge of the buffer...

    Loads for .223 Barnes TSX

Re: Loads for .223 Barnes TSX B-25 - still loading mag length but may extend the bullet out to minimize the jump to the lands to see if this affects accuracy. Actually the load I have now is plenty accurate for the ranges we hunt at - less than 100 yards. Just need to see if this load will...

    Loads for .223 Barnes TSX

Re: Loads for .223 Barnes TSX Nice buck Bugg25. Been playing with this 70gr load and using Hornady 75gr Match as my reference round. With my 1:7 twist, I'm going to try heavier bullets like the 80 and 90 gr bullets with a reduced charge and work it up again. Will keep this load for light...

    Question for the group

Re: Question for the group Didn't have the chrony setup for the initial round. Kinda risky for it after I saw the keyhole

    Question for the group

been getting keyholing from what should be a pretty good load. Started with Lapua cases in 6.5 Grendel, CCI 450 primers and BLC-2 22.0 to 23.0 grains behind a Barnes TSX 120 grain BTHP solid copper. Barrel is a 1 X 8, 3 land, polygonical, 18" long, mid-length, SS, no chrome. Checked for...

Gunsmithing on-going problem with an Ar-15 upper

Re: on-going problem with an Ar-15 upper Thanks all. Yes, the rifle's been looked at by a couple good local gunsmiths. It's now in pieces bound for the scrap pile except for the non-firing systems. No one could figure it out and you guys were the last line of hope for this really good...

Gunsmithing on-going problem with an Ar-15 upper

Well, my search-fu sucks but I haven't seen this come up in any thing I've read here. Problem is my light barrel semi-auto AR-15 will go full auto when I hold the trigger back. At first I thought - bad disconnector. Replaced it. Still had the problem. Okay, check gas rings - replaced them...

    Loads for .223 Barnes TSX

Re: Loads for .223 Barnes TSX Thanks for the reply and info. Using the 70 gr TSX with 22.0 gr IMR 4895, tried my luck at 450 yards with a 100 yard zero and was pretty impressed. From a bipod, I was able to hit the steel target with 10 mph wind coming from about 1 o'clock. Using hold over...

    Loads for .223 Barnes TSX

Re: Loads for .223 Barnes TSX Thanks RA. Sounds like the start for a good load. B.L.U.F. - didn't get to try the load on a pig so still don't know if it could take one out. Got back from hunting pigs on the south slopes of Mauna Loa. Zero/scope range check at 50 yards had more than MOA but...

    Loads for .223 Barnes TSX

Re: Loads for .223 Barnes TSX The Barnes manual calls for H-4895 but I used IMR-4895 and reduced the charge starting at 21.0 grains. Got a pretty good group at 100 yards (1 MOA) with a little pressure (slightly flattened primers) at 22.0 grains. The 22.5 grain charge had excessive primer...

    Loads for .223 Barnes TSX

Re: Loads for .223 Barnes TSX Well, finally got some time to accurately load up some of the 70 grain HP BT TSX bullets into the LC90 cases. Used loads of IMR 4895 ranging from 21.5 to 23 grains in 0.5 grain increments and CCI small rifle primers. Loaded to COAL of 2.250 with a light collet...
