On this date 77 years ago the largest non-nuclear man-made explosion in the history of the world occurred in Texas City Texas. My mom was 9 years old at the time and lived only 1/2 mile away. Her account is recorded along with other's in a book entitled, I Was There. A ship was loaded with...
I'm thinking of replacing the stock on my M44 Mosin. After replacing the trigger with a Timney and working up handloads, the rifle shoots 1.25 moa 3-shot groups so I'm thinking it would be a decent pig gun. However I had to really hogout the old stock to make room for the safety so it's pretty...
Chris Kyle was killed on 2/2 eleven years ago. Chuck Mawhinny passed 2/12 of this year and Carlos passed 25 years ago today, 2/22/1999. Seems like a good month to hit the rifle range and maybe pour one out for those guys. I think I'll bust out the M40A1 today at Quail Creek range in DFW...
2/22/1999 was the day Gunny Hathcock passed. Shouldn't we do something here to commemorate? If anyone in the DFW area would like to get together I'm game. Maybe bust out some military rifles and hit the range? Maybe diner and drinks after?
So I and some ROs were talkin the other day at the range about 40s&w passing into history. When I retired 12 years ago the entire nation of LEOs carried 40s, not so anymore. Anyway one RO mentioned that I could convert my old duty S&W M&P Pro from 40 to 9 by just by dropping in a 9mm barrel...
Looking to load some 44spl for plinking but hotter is funner of course. Have a ton of 240gr JHP, and CDE Pistol powder. Lyman manual doesn't list that powder but shows a range of 600 to 760fps with various Powders. Hodgdon website says 794 to 898fps. Seems awful fast. What say yall?
There is one for sale on Gunbroker. Asking $3500. Wrong scope/base/rings. No mention or pic of serial number of rifle. No round count. Says GAP build. Zoomed in pic may indicate a tombstone safety. Just FYI.
I work put of town and after a scary situation my wife has decided to look for a way to carry her LC9S. What's your recommendation for a good brand/model to consider?
How do we not have a tactical knives thread? Post your pics and any relevant comments. I'll start. Here is my latest - a Benchmade Osborne. The S90V blade steel and carbon fiber handles got my attention. It's one of the sharpest knives right out of the box I've had.
After hearing the initial plans for the 8 state, 23 day event, I don't recall ever hearing any after action reviews or who won or any other details. Did the event ever happen in 2001 as planned?
https://cmpauction.thecmp.org/detail.asp?id=8027&n=M1D-Garand-4239107with-M84-Sc I assume everyone in Vintage is watching this CMP auction on an M1D with M84 scope. Out of my reach at $7k but dang would be nice.
Loaded the last 300 pieces of a 5-gallon bucket of 40cal brass I bought from the PD before I retired 10 years ago. Maybe 20k pieces? Sad part is the dept, like every other switched to 9mm. So no more cheap 40cal brass.
My M40a1 is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. So I got the Unertl 10x out of the safe for mounting and started reading the zeroing instructions from Unertl as posted on the Hide a few years ago. They say to calc the amount of adjustment needed, and adjust the large Allen screw in the center of...
At 1800 yards and beyond im out of elevation have to use the retical. I recently read about a Nightforce device that attached to a scope like a sunshade that added like 50moa of elevation. I checked their website but didn't see it. Way less expensive than a Tarac. Does anyone have experience...
I scored a couple of pounds of this the other day thinking it would be a close substitute for IMR4064 but apparently not? I was looking at powder options for 8mm Mauser in Hodgdon website which lists IMR4064 but not A4064. Also, the Lyman Manual doesn't even list a burn rate for A4064. Did I buy...
It occurred to me this week that some of my scopes have had the same 2032 batteries in them for DECADES! They all still work except one on a Leupy which is actually the newest but is still 10 years old. So I replaced 5 yesterday and none showed any signs of leakage which shocked me. That is all.
