    AI vs. Custom US build

I was faced with the same decision last year. Either send my 700 off to the custom shop, start over with a custom action, or by an AI. I bought an AE MKIII for many reasons, but the main reasons were reliability, and the fact that I could change my own barrels. I hate bringing my guns to Smiths...

Switching to Bergers for the AE MKIII

Went to the range Wednesday and tried the Berger 175 OTM's on top of my standard load of 42.3gr of IMR 4064 in Lapua Brass with GMM primers...The result was the best my rifle has ever shot. Might kiss the SMK's goodbye. First five shots of the day. image by roscoep78, on Flickr

    Dumb AICS mag question...

Guess I run my bolt so hard I never noticed...I'll pay more attention from now on. Haven't noticed on either my 700 or my AE.

Accuracy International AW and AE differences?

I don't know about the OAL difference, and this makes no difference to me as I load all my ammo to standard mag length. The only real world difference for me is the the AW mags can be reloaded through the action. This is not a big deal to me either because by the time I empty a mag, I am either...

Accuracy International AW and AE differences?

I have an AE...The only reason I wish I had an AW is so I can say I have an AW when someone asks me at the range. Other than that, all other differences aren't worth it to my wallet...

    Advice needed.

I would make a few calls, to different distributors, and get some quotes. I bought from Mile High and have nothing but good things to say about them. 243 is an excellent caliber, but you will sacrifice barrel life. I am choosing 6.5 Creedmoor because of barrel life, and factory ammo with load...

Now that I think about it, just go 6.5 Creedmoor. You won't regret it.

    Advice needed.

Like you I started out with a Remington 700. I pour lots of money, everything short of having it trued and rebarrelled, in an attempt to get her to shoot like the mall ninjas said she would out of box. Now, when I look back at the money I put into that 700, I could have bought a high end rifle...

    Advice needed.

What is your budget? You can get a GREAT deal on an Accuracy International right now with the new models being introduced in January. Also rebarreling and truing is not a bad option either. If done by a qualified gunsmith you can easily get a consistent half MOA rifle out of it.

Any reason not to go 6.5 creedmoor over .308?

Other than the fact that the AE requires removing the action from the chassis to swap calibers, what advantage is barrel swapping on the AW? I'm eager to see what AI offers at Shot because I hope their new offerings have a PSR style barrel retention system.

Any reason not to go 6.5 creedmoor over .308?

I just bought a an AE MKIII in 308. I am going to buy a 6.5 Creedmoor barrel soon and swap calibers. As far as factory ammo, it seems like the Creedmoor Ammo is slightly less expensive ($25-30 a box) on most online retailers as opposed to 308 Match Ammo ($30-Up) in the current market. I reload...
