Gunsmithing Remmington 700 Bolt...........Tig Weld ?

Hello,

I bought a brand new remmington 700 Stainless long action which will be the heart of a upcoming build.

I know that bolt handles are a weak link. While this one appears fine, can they be tig welded to avoid future problems? Or do I need to find a new one piece bolt ?

I TIG alot of bolts. Just bought a whole new setup actually.

Welding does greatly reduce the chance of a handle coming off. The trick is doing it elegently. Done well it'll last for a lifetime.

You could get a PTG one piece bolt:

I was told that the Israeli Sniper program required a true One piece bolt(integral Handle) PTG from what I heard took a long time to get it right but once they did they came out really nice.

I've also fitted quite a few PTG one piece bolts. Can't go wrong there either.

Fitted to each action by them. Just measure the bore ID and submit when you place the order. Might have to fiddle with the primary extraction a little, but that's it.
