I hope that this is in the right section! I have a case similar to a pelican case that has 2 layers of flat foam in it. I was wondering what the ideal way to cut the foam to the shape of the rifle would be? Should I just give it a whirl with the exacto knife or what?
Let's say you have a 24" fluted barrel and you want to get it to 20" and install a muzzle brake, it will cut through the flutes, does it matter ? thanks
I have a fluted Rock Creek from GAP with 5 deep flutes and I want to cut and thread it at a point within the fluted area. The width of barrel at the point that I want to cut it is @ 1" and flutes are @ 5mm deep. Is this going to be a problem? TIA
Has anyone or does anyone shoot a Rem 700 .300 wm or .338 with a shorter barrel? I have a .308 that has been cut down with a brake and it shoots great, just didn't know if the larger calibers shoot good with a shorter barrel. Seems like every one I have seen has barrels of at least 24-26"s...
I was interesting to cutting my barrel down and having it threaded, my question is do you buy the knurled thread protectors or are they custom made by the gunsmith doing the work. I may also consider putting a Vias brake on it that I can take on and off.
Just got a new barrel from Bartlein. Featherweight SS for a .257 Roberts going on a HVA action. My question is how vital is cutting a inch off the muzzle end? Could I get away with say cutting 1/2" inch? I would like for it be as long as I can get it. If anyone out there has a opinion on the 1...
I was thinking of building a trainer but want to be able to put a sound suppressor on it. For threading i would either use ADCO firearms or Tornado Tech. They both do good, precise, concentric threading. The question i have is this: My idea is to cut the CZ 452 Varmint. It is 21" I could...
I have a Rem 700 varment in 308, it has a 26" barrel. I'm wanting to shorten the barrel and recrown. I will be using for hunting and shooting at range out to 1k yards. what length would be best, wanted 20" but was woundering if 21" or 22" would be better? I wanted to be shorter for weight and I...
Is there anyone that uses a CNC Lathe to cut chambers and thread barrels. Is there any reason I could not use this techinque not only would it save buying a reamer I think it would be easier to setup. I would think you could easily dailed the center of the barrel into .0001 and then cut your...

hey guys, here is the deal. i have a leupold mk4 4.5x14, in badger medium rings, sitting on a badger 20moa base. the problem is i cant get the scope far back enough to achieve proper eye relief. i am pretty handy with a dremel tool and file so can anyone give me a good reason not to cut a small...
I got a screaming deal on a 700 SPS Varmint in .308 Win. The trigger is awesome (so far), and I swapped out the stock. Shoots like crazy. Only problem is the 26" barrel. My son wants to use it for an all around rifle, mostly for deer hunting. I used a Remington 700P for deer hunting one year...
I have a Savage 12FV with the heavy 26" barrel chambered in 22-250. I am considering having my smith cut 4" off of the barrel. The barrel has a 1 in 12 twist and I don't anticipate shooting anything heaver than 65 grain bullets or past 500-600 yards. Would there be any considerable losses in...
I just bought one of the M40A3 rails from CDIPRECISION and I was wondering if anyone can recommend someone to cut the receiver and drill and tap the holes to 8/40. Thanks Josh
