Israel, and particularly Jerusalem, is unique in the fact that almost EVERY world power had occupied Jerusalem and the Holy Land sometime throughout history and many returned again and again. From the Norman crusaders and kings of Plantagenet England, to the Yuan Dynasty of China/Mongolia, and every large Arab or Turkic warlord army in between.
