I have searched but finding what I am focusing on is not going well.

Using a 1 in 10 twist 26" heavy barell out to 1000k.
fireformed lapua new brass.

what powders/loads would you suggest for the higest velocity if using 208 A-max or 210 burger VLD?

Thanks in advance

I just sent my 1 in 10 .308 to dallas reloads for load development with the 208 amax. Chad said he was going to try RE15 and RE17? so I guess I would start there. I'm sure he'll chime in if you PM him.

with the difficulty finding powders I was hoping for more choices than just reloader.

Prior to RL17 N550 was the go to powder for heavy bullets in .308. It is expensive and sometimes hard to find, but like all VV powders the quality is excellent.

The N550 is almost impossible to find now, not to mention the cost. I had to switch my 243 load to a different powder.

I used to load RL15 for my 208 AMAX. Gets very decent speed.

I meant chambering, lots of 30 cals can use the 208/210 class bullets, sorry I didn't make that clear. It appears you're using it in a 308 Win, which is what everyone else got, I didn't.

Look at RL17 and RL19 (19's easier to find) and N550 (I haven't used it though) and you can also try H4350 but I suspect that's going to be a little slow for you.

Burn charts I have show varget as being in between RE15 and RE17 & Hodgdon has load data for varget with 190 and 200 grain bullets (44 and 42 grains). If it were me I'd try it.

has anyone compared vv550 head to head, same rifle, same load,to RL17?i shoot vv550 behind 155's and my rifle loves the stuff.going to try some 185bt bergers and was wondering if i should stick with 550 or if anybody has had better luck with RL17 with the heavies.

Re: 1 in 10 twist 308 using 208-210gr - best powder

I've been thinking of trying Varget with 208's. I know it's fast, but it's really temp stable which I like, and the one dislike that I DO have for RL17. If I can get 2500fps, that's all i'm looking for.

To save me from potentially wasting some powder chasing a dream that can't be caught, is there anyone on here that has tested 208amax/210 bergers with varget?

Branden- You're not going to see 2500 fps with 208's with Varget. My 30-06 barely breaks 2550 with those bullets and that powder burn rate. I run 2885 with 208's and RL22, just to get an idea how hard you can push them with the right powder.

Try H4350 and load them really long, don't try this, but I wouldn't be too surprised if you could take H3450, fill the case and stuff a bullet in it safely.

Varget's just too fast for bullets that heavy in the 308 and H4350 is the gold standard for temp stability.
