Looking for some input/opinions. Just finishing an AR10 build in .308, and I need a little advice from those who have tried the offset RDS thing. I picked up a venom 3moa dot and vortex offset rail:

Goal was to use the 1 o'clock mount and roll the rifle to the red dot. I think what I've run in to, is that where the venom is intended for pistol use, it is not high enough to maintain cheek weld. The riser mount that Vortex/American Defense sells is QD, and I believe would add too much bulk/clutter.

Anyone tried a similar setup and had success? Should I just move to a SparcAR or similar; that already comes at co-witness height? I know, all of this is probably unnecessary, but, I want it.. any input appreciated. Thanks fellas

I have that exact setup with a Daniel defense mount. Actually have it listed for sale. Never got around to using it and thought It looked a little delicate mounted like that. I’ll stick to BUIs.

I threw the mount in for free with my Leupold delta point pro listing.

I have BUIS on my ar15, which is this rifles "twin", but wanted to try a different option. Definitely seems delicate, but so does the bubble level and we all run those

Not sure I’d bother with the Vortex for reliability sake. RMR or Delta Point, even a Doctor would be my choice. I’d also suggest tube mounting the MRDS, rolling to the 45* off the rail feels less comfortable and obscures more of your field of view.

Do you have to lift your head from the stock in order to use the ring mounted RDS? How does that work for you when moving? Probably works great for aquiring longer range targets before scoping them, where it is right on the scope.

For me it just a slight shift from check weld to chin weld. It requires significantly less rolling of the rifle to gain a sight picture.

I use the MRDS for several key reasons, primarily as sighting systems for ad extremis situations especially while on the move. I also find it extremely useful for indexing targets at high magnification or under NODs. Lastly I’ve found it very useful for situations that require a lot of field of view like high speed movers or aerial platform.
