Hey all,

I came across these bases and was wondering if a 20-moa cant would have any negative impact on a rifle used for hunting?

I like the look of the mount as I am going for an M40A1 look to my build and didn't want to use a rail.

I looked at the Leupold dual dovetail bases, however I'm wondering if any of you guys can tell me more about them. The standard 1-pc base Leupold makes has that windage adjustment built in, and I'm not big on that to be honest.

Can I get that look of the base I posted above in anything quality-made with 0 moa cant?

Also, I'm not sure what clipslotting is... Can anyone explain this for me?

Pictures would be awesome too.

Clipslotting the top of the action is to allow for a stripper clip to be inserted for faster reloading, usually with no scope base covering it(alot of old rifles came this way).Mounts have been made that use the clip slot for a rear recoil lug on the likes of the DD Ross optics rail, which also have a front recoil lug as well.Hope this helps.Goodshootin'

If all you are going to do is hunt at short range with the rifle... yes, there is no need for a 20 moa base. I switched to pica-tinny style bases from dual-dovetail on all my bolt guns and opted for the 20 moa cant models. The additional travel is there if you ever decide to walk that rifle out past the abilities of the 0 moa base and their addition won't negatively affect your hunting optics.

Being that the rifle is a .308, maybe having the ability to take longer range shots in the future should I go out of state to hunt so maybe 20moa cant isn't such a bad thing?

The two optics I'm looking at are the Nikon Monarch 2.5-10 and 3-12SF models, so I'm sure they have enough internal travel to offset the 20moa cant? Or would it place the duplex reticle too far off center for a hunting application?

I think the 20moa of extra cante, can't hurt.I have a few Nikons and you should be able to zero at 100yards fine with the 20 base.Throw the base on,dial 20moa up and then re-zero,done.hope this helps.Goodshootin'
