I just ordered a SWFA SS 3-9 to put on my M700. The 3-9 has 20 mil elevation adjustment. Looking at other posts, I am estimating it will take about 8.5 mils in elevation for the 7mm-08 to reach 1000 yards,

Would it be better to use a 10 moa scope base so that elevation knobs would be more in the middle of the adjustment range? Rifle has a 24" barrel, will probably be using 162 grain A-max bullets, if available.

This rifle does not have a heavy barrel (yet). So most of the shooting will probably be 600 yards or less. I estimate that with a 20 moa rail and needing 8 mil total, it will be 6 above and two below.

Just wondering if I will be losing anything optically if most of the time I am adjusted 5 mil above the center of the tube.

You want the middle of the adjustment range available at the furthest you plan to shoot if possible. That's where the wind will push you bullet the most, no?

I run a 20moa Seekins on my 7-08, never really have given a thought to the "middle of travel" for windage part other than discussing for discussion' sake because a)I hold wind usually, sometimes dial for prevailing if steady and hard and, b)its never been a problem with a decent scope in the field for me.

I am trusting your judgment, and going with the 20 moa. Will be nice to be using the Seekins with the recoil lug. Thanks for the help.

If you use 30 moa that will put right in the middle of your adjustment range at 1k with extra to go longer if that day comes and you still can have a 100y zero and a zero stop of sorts...

Now I am really convinced that nothing less than 20 moa will be appropriate. Thanks for the pro advice.
