Hello everyone. I just bought a Savage FVSR .22. It is an excellent little rifle. The main reason I purchased it was to get into the 100 yard egg shoot at my local club as well as to have a host should cans ever become legal in my state. I have a Banner 6-24 X 40 on it and I know it not the best, but It is what I have right now. The gun shoots great at 50 yards. Im talking cloverleafs and nothing ever bigger than a dime. I started reaching out to 100 yards and my groups have gone to hell. I have tested many of the popular subsonic match ammo and I cannot get any consistency at 100 yards no matter what I do. I have had others shoot the gun with the same results. I have had other Savages that would shoot 1 1.5 inches at 100 yards with crap ammo. The only thing difference is this one has a 16 inch barrel with a thread protector. Could this be messing with harmonics? I am at a loss as to why this gun won't shoot like the many other Savages that I have had and have seen others shoot. Any Ideas? Any ammo recomendations or experiance with this gun at 100 yards? I know 100 yards is pushing the .22 but that is what makes the eggs shoots fun.

Re: 100 Yard Issues

Have not tried a vise. I have bagged it to the point of not having anything but my trigger finger touching the rifle with the same results. I have a buddy with a vise and I will give that a shot.

Re: 100 Yard Issues

Quite a few disagree when I've said I still get better groups at extended distances with CCI mini mags. 100 yards is far from pushing a 22. We've been extending it out to 400 for quite a while and use the mini mags pretty much exclusively in both the pistols and rifles at longer distances. I did use Wolf Match stuff for close up one shot per target stuff though for close up matches.

I'll get some video this summer but my one lil browning buckmark with a 2x scope is sighted in for 220 yards for just for a showoff gun and shoots great with the minimags on lil steel chickens and turkeys at that distance. Maybe drop by Walmart and try a box.

Eley Target, Team, and Match XPS. Wolf Match. Federal GMMM. CCI SV. I just ordered some Fiocci 340 and an some others I can't remember right now. I have only shot subsonic stuff. I think I'm going to try something faster, just to see what happens.

Re: 100 Yard Issues

That's definatly a great host of ammo... Honestly I would ASSume that you got one of the lemons... Now, if I'm right, you have to answer the big question as to how far you're willing to make this rifle shoot well...

Sorry buddy, hopefully someone else can find a reason...

What he said.

Look at my groups pictures Thread here

At 100 yds I had the occasional flyer that for no apparent reason was 4 inches low.

Those are 1 inch circles. I'd have missed a lot of eggs at 100 yds, not so many at 50.

Here are a couple of pics from a 100 yard prone match we shot a while back.

Subsonic match ammo is where it is at. Period. The rest of it is finding the right ammo your rifle likes, being able to read the wind, and is the rifle and shooter capable.
