I just finished building a .30-06 and want to stretch its legs.

What loads are people using to get this past 1K?

Re: 1000 yard + load for .30-06

A 190SMK with somewhere between 60.5 and 61.0gr of RL22 will net you 2900fps, and remain supersonic to 1400 yards.

How long is your barrel? After seeing all of these RL-22 loads with 190/208/210s here on the 'hide I really wish I still had an '06 and will likely make my next rifle one.

26" tube. Nothin' quite like smoke checking most everything on the line with my 103 year old "has been"

My next bolt gun is definitely going to be an '06 sporting a 26" 1:10" twist barrel launching 190s or 208s. I've always been a fan, even before I learned what it is capable of with modern powders and heavy bullets. I only sold mine to help fund a move a few years back.

Re: 1000 yard + load for .30-06

My gun has a 22" tube. Do I need to use a faster burning powder for this setup?

Please answer your own question Greg as I'm all ears and I think you have a couple choice recipes of your own!

Re: 1000 yard + load for .30-06

'Queg;

I don't really have a decent LR platform for the '06 yet; just a Garand and a couple of 22" sporters.

For now, I'm sticking with Garand-compatible 150gr loads, mainly because I'm not going any higher because of recoil, and I have no really compatible rifle for LR applications. My prime interest is to develop a common load which works for the Garand and some Light Tactical sorta applications with the 22' M70 for decently accurate midrange work. Right now I'm working with 150gr HDY FMJBT's Rem brass, WLR's, and 50gr of IMR4064 that's working really nice for the Garand and semidecent for the M70. I have yet to try it in the recently inherited very clean but older M77 22' .30-'06 sporter my Brother Bill left to me last year. I have a .30 cal heavy 20" 1:10" barrel blank that I may get chambered in .30-'06 (or maybe .308, but why...?) and mount up as a single shot on my 10FP action. That could be interesting.

Re: 1000 yard + load for .30-06

Looking at the 180gr sgk for both 1000yd shooting and hunting
been looking for information on different powders, 58-60.5gr of
RL22 all over the paper.....
Shoots a 150gr less than a 3/4 in group at 100yds. Thanks....

When I first started doing load development with the 190SMK's, I tried both H4831SC and RL22. H4831SC gave velocities 100-150fps slower than RL22.

Go with a polymer tip, pick your flavor. Exposed lead and their construction process is not conducive to accuracy potential. Say a 178 AMax for plinking and a 180 Accubond for business. Give or take

Re: 1000 yard + load for .30-06

Been asked to try the 200gr bullet for shooting shoot the
200gr smk for target and switch over to the 200sgk for hunting
all of the data from target would work for hunting....
Been wondering about this not sure if this bullet may be on the heavy side but both have a good BC....
Any load ideas.........

Re: 1000 yard + load for .30-06

For the 175, my guesses include Varget, IMR4064, and IMR4320, as well as ole' reliable, IMR4895. W748 and W760 also fit in that set of choices, and R/S Big Game might be a keeper too. I tried BL-C2 and was not overjoyed.

My Garand load is 150/155's and 50gr of IMR4064. It's directly quoted from the NRA reprint for the Garand; which lists 48.0gr for the 168, and 47.0gr for the 175.

I have used the 180SMK and 180SGK in the .308 for midrange work, and found them to be very closely matched except for copper fouling. The SGK appears to use a softer jacket for expansion reasons, and fouls more.

Published government loads, which should never be taken at face value, list the load for the 150gr FMJ and 173gr LC Match bullet as both being 50gr of IMR4895. I would not go above 49gr for the 150/155, and 46gr for the 175, which are simply quotes from the NRA reprint. The NRA reprint loads are for the Garand, and may have been trimmed to make allowance for the Garand oprod.

Re: 1000 yard + load for .30-06

The loads are being shot in a bolt gun Not a M1...
Thank you for the input for the Grand M1........

Re: 1000 yard + load for .30-06

For LR '06 info, I take my lead from USSR and Montana Marine.

I run a 200 gr SMK with 53.3gr of H4350 in Lake City brass. Stock Rem 700 in .06

Re: 1000 yard + load for .30-06

Hello. I am new to the site so I figured I start posting where I have the most questions.

I just bought a Savage 111 .30-06 and I was going to try the 175gr SMK and load box with Varget and a box with IMR4064. Has anyone had luck with these configurations? I have a 22", 1 in 10" twist barrel.

Doable but there are better options. Those powders are a bit fast.
