((((( 100 YARD !!! ))))) THE SHOOTOUT OVERVIEW!
I thought this would be really fun for us Semi-Auto platform shooters to really show off your bad A$$ rifles and sniper's hide shooting skills in the Semi-Auto community. Enough of the "shoots .5moa all day long @ 100yards" talk, and to actually walk the walk!!!... Lets give those bolt action guys a run for their money! If you think this will be easy, then think again. You will never know until you try it! Will purchase a shot for the first .5" all day long crown! LOL

Please, only picture / groupings post only!!

HERE ARE THE GUIDELINES TO POST:

1.) At 100yards (please be honest about this 100yards), all 6 groupings, 5shots each, 30 total bullets (no more, no less)... Must be on one large target about 2'x3' (or smaller target if you can fit your bad ass groups on 8x11 paper).... What ever size you think you can get 6 groups @ 5shots each on.... Can NOT be on individual targets. MUST BE on one target with 6 total groupings, 5shots each, 30 total bullets. That's it!! Would prefer 6 total @ 3/4" to 1" round sticker type targets on ONE large poster size target (or just use a black magic marker to make the 6 target markings). All consecutively shot. Shoot as fast or slow as you want, but must be shot within that day!!... If your one piece of paper / cardboard doesn't have 30 bullet holes, it doesn't count..... Bullet holes must be easy to see in your picture!! This is NOT about bullseyes!! All about grouping size average and your best group size!! All in good fun people... .25" or 5",, show off your skills baby! Just try your best! Everyone is welcome here regardless of skill! Piston or DI, AR or M1A, it's all semi-auto cool baby!

2.) Can be any caliber Semi Auto type platform. 308, 223, 260, 30-06, what ever. SEMI AUTO ONLY!! No bolt actions!!!

3.) Can use any type factory or reloaded ammo. What ever works best for your rifle.

4.) cough, honestly measure with calipers the distance of your two furthest bullet holes of each 5shot groupings (((center to center of each bullet hole))) and write this measurement IN LARGE FONT BLACK MAGIC MARKER right next to each grouping (6 total measurements).

5.) Post close up picture of your best SINGLE group WITH CALIPERS showing the measurement!! MUST BE WITH CALIPERS!! NO RULERS ALLOWED!! If you don't have calipers, then go buy some. They are only $20 bucks!! Sheesshh, stop being such as cheap A$$ !! JK... Please be honest with your measurements!!! No coins or objects for scale!!! Just hard core measurements.

6.) Post picture of entire target showing all 6 groupings / measurements with calipers still on your best grouping!! NO picture, then it didn't happen!!

7.) In your posting, add up all 6 measurements and divide by 6 for your average MOA shot. Example, 1.12" + 1.01" + .56" + .75" + 2.25" + 3.46" = 9.15 divided by 6groupings = 1.525" average.

8.) Please, be honest! No shooting with your bolt action and playing it off as your semi-auto!! NO SHUTTING OFF OF GAS BLOCKS as this would turn off the semi-auto nature of your rifle. Can adjust gas block if needed, just can not shut it off all together!!!... In short, your bolt must make a complete cycle after the shot taken... You can not manually cycle the rifle on each round!!!

9.) If you do reload, feel free to post your load specs!

10.) Post what type of semi-auto rifle, ammo used, and how you took your shots (prone, bench, bipod, sandbags used, blah blah blah)........... No lock down gun vises!! Sandbags are ok, bipods are ok, monopods are ok.... If you are using a vise, then you are not really shooting the damn rifle and a monkey can shoot the rifle for you.

11.) Please post a picture of your rifle with your entry!!!!

12.) there is NO SUCH THING AS "FLYERS" in this shootout.. any possible "flyers" you might have count as your group!! damn those flyers!!!

13.) Please put the type of rifle, your sniper's hide name, and date you consecutively shot at the top of your target!

14.) As long as you follow the rules, have 6 groups @ 5shots each / 30 total bullets only, then feel free to post your results regardless of your average / single group size even if you don't make the leader boards!! You can not have multiple rankings / measurements on the leader boards,,,, only your best entry will make the boards with your one rifle.... You can however, have multiple leader-board entries by using two completely different semi auto rifles. In short, you can make as many attempts as you want with your rifle in order to improve your standing on the boards / get the best possible outcome with your rifle... no limits on entries..... the only way to be on the boards more than once at the same time is to use two different rifles.... Rock out as many semi auto rifles / entries as you want. Time to bust out that semi-auto collection!! All info is good info. Each rifle is different, has different optics, has different purpose, and different operators!!!! Be respectful of everyone's postings! Sub MOA or not, show off your rifle and skills! This is all in good fun!

15.) IF and only IF, with a semi-auto, you get ALL 6 total groups, 5shots each, consecutively shot in one day of shooting, AT or UNDER .5"moa ON EACH GROUP @ 100yards, THEN you will get the esteemed title of, "This person, (your name), with this semi-auto rifle, (type/brand of rifle), shoots .5moa ALL DAY LONG" on the original post!!!! You will be required to have caliper measurements with pics ON EACH GROUP if you think you made it this far!! No cheaters or you will be called out if anything looks fishy... Until then, you are mostly just full of BS! Which also goes for myself! I do NOT have a .5moa all day long rifle! My rifle and myself are more like a .7 to .8 all day long kind of team!! JK LOL

THIS IS THE EXAMPLE ENTRY BELOW!! IF YOUR ENTRY DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THIS, THEN IT WILL NOT COUNT AND YOU WILL BE ASK TO RE-DO YOUR ENTRY (STARTS TODAY 10/04/12)!!!

If we're going for 6 groups and they are all going to be sub MOA...why the hell does it need to be any bigger of a target than a standard 8.5" x 11" sheet of printer paper with six individual target zones.

Great idea, elfster! Hopefully I'll have my AR finished in the next couple weeks so I can get some groups to post.

Re: The AR, 6 groups, 5shots each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

Tag for later.

I'll do one with my Rock River LAR-8 Varmint and when my GAP-10 shows up on Monday, I'll get it out and do the same thing.

LAR-8 is a .308, the GAP-10 is a 6mm Creedmoor.

Re: The AR, 6 groups, 5shots each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

I don't think there will be anyone posting their 2 MOA results ...

Re: The AR, 6 groups, 5shots each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

Definitely interested! I have to put it off a little bit because I just started bullet coating, and I haven't worked up a load yet. Not to mention classes just started this week. But I'd like to get in on this eventually.

Re: SemiAuto, 6 groups, 5shot each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

What is wrong with individual targets?

Re: SemiAuto, 6 groups, 5shot each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

because if you use 1 target per grouping, then how do we all know you didn't shoot 300 rounds and you just pick and choose your best 5shot group targets...

one target with 6 total 5shot groups... 30 bullets, 30 bullet holes in one piece of paper / cardboard... any less and any more than 30 bullet holes (6 groups with 5shots per) in one piece of paper / cardboard / whatever and it doesn't count... easy as that. Just read the directions in the OP.....

sure there will... just try your best... everyone has different rifles and different optics and different skill levels... all group sizes welcome.

Re: SemiAuto, 6 groups, 5shot each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

Preface: I wanted to get this thread going somewhere, so I dug up a target from earlier this summer. This technically doesn't count, I suppose, since one group was half off the paper. That was my zeroing group for these loads. This target contains shots 26-55 out of a brand new barrel. My more current targets all only contain 5 groups (one group per diamond).

Target:
dsc6064g.jpg

dsc6066f.jpg

Average group size: .863"/.824MOA

Grids are .940". Measurement of the "off-the-paper" group was taken when the target was still taped to the target backer.

Rifle:
Upper/Lower receivers - S&W MP15 Sport
BCG - S&W MP15 Sport
Troy TRX Extreme 11" FF Rail
Rainier Ultramatch 16" barrel
Armalite 2-stage trigger, 3.5lb
Vortex Viper HS 5-15x44mm
Atlas bipod, TAB rear bag

Shots were taken prone with a 'pod up front, and a bag at the rear. If I had to guess, I would say it took around 35-40 minutes to shoot this target. I'll post pics of the rifle when I submit a fully qualifying target.

Ammo:
"55gr NV" - 55gr Nosler Varmageddon BT, Hodgdon H322, FGMM SR primers
"77gr NCC" - 77gr Nosler Custom Competition, Hodgdon VARGET, FGMM SR primers

The Varmageddon load had an OCW shot for it previously, and this was the second stage of load development. The Custom Comp load was a load that worked for me with the previous barrel. Turns out I was close to a scatter node, with my accuracy node close to 24.7gr VARGET. Oh, well.

I'll submit another target later that I'll shoot just for this thread, but I just wanted to (hopefully) kick this thread off. Should be fun!

Re: SemiAuto, 6 groups, 5shot each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

That is some damn nice shooting! Just too bad you are missing the 6th group!! Get us another target with 6 total groups and I'll get your name posted.

Going to the range this sunday and should have a 6group target done. Hopefully it turns out nice.

Good shooting, but doesn't count my friend. Keep us posted.

Guessing there will be some post after this weekend. My trigger is in the mail right now, but I will try to get to the range this weekend and see what I can do with the Noveske upper and a colt lower from one of my other AR's.

Just made my weekend exciting.

Not sure I would consider yourself bad ass for being able to do this. These are the targets I use for load work and there are plenty just like it. 6 targets all on one 8.5x11 sheet of paper.

It's cool if we post 2 different sets?? Got 2 nice loads and will be kind of fun to see which has the better AVG. of the 2.

Re: SemiAuto, 6 groups, 5shot each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

Ok Temp 9, you made me go down into my big pile of old targets in the basement to see if I actually had a target with 6 groups @ 5shots each, with 30 total bullet holes. I only had 2 total in my big mess of targets that I could find and this is by no means my best especially for crappy factory ammo, but this should get the party started for you all and give everyone an easy target to beat!!

Was mostly shot with factory 7.62x51 168 american eagle ammo, and I do have two groups done with some of my reloads when I first started reloading. Was shot about 1 month ago? Was shot with a harris bipod off a bench @ 100yards. I don't see this being an issue to beat this coming sunday for myself. I just got done reloading 80 rounds @ 168 amax's for this sunday's shoot!!

If possible pep's, try to mirror your pictures around this posting so this thread is consistant. Make postings short and simple with 3 total pictures (pic of entire target with label above it, close up pick of best group with label above it, and pic of your rifle with label above it). Re: SemiAuto, 6 groups, 5shot each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

Elfsfer is this an ongoing deal or does it expire? I might have just closed in on a kick ass load I've been trying for. Well if it's for real then I'm there already. I need to do a 5 group 5 shot each test to prove my load so I might as well make it more fun and do 6 groups for this thread. Great fun I'll get to loading and shooting as soon as I can.

Re: SemiAuto, 6 groups, 5shot each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

Nice job, Elfster. Not bad at all for factory ammo! This is gonna be a great challenge!

I just realized that I won't get my scope back from Vortex until Wednesday afternoon. I have class late on Thursday, busy Friday and weekend, so I won't be able to get my results up until probably three weeks from now. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to, though.

Re: SemiAuto, 6 groups, 5shot each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

I might just have to throw my 5.5-22 nightforce on my Gap and RWS ar-10s to see how well I do.

Re: SemiAuto, 6 groups, 5shot each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

Been working up a load for this rifle using 168gr SMKs, here's today's results with a few weights of IMR4895. I'm planning to keep working in the 41.5-42ish range to see if it'll tighten up some. I know the gun likes Varget (shoots in the .4's-.7's when I do my part) with the 168's, but I figured I'd shop around to see if I could beat that.

Still not sure what happened with the flyer on the middle target, right side. I thought I shot it clean, but something was clearly off.

This was shot off the bench @ 100 yards, front bipod, no rear support, 5 minutes between strings. I may take bags out to shoot next time just to see what the difference is, if any.
I measured the groups edge to edge and then subtracted the bullet diameter.

1.294" + 1.162" + 1.781" + 0.898" + 0.736" + 1.108" = 6.979" / 6 = 1.163" avg. (Let me know what the penalty is for my wife's cat sitting on the target...I'm just glad he's there rather than getting more hair on my reloading bench!)

sorry my friend, as nice as this is, rules are 30 bullets only, 30 bullet holes only, 6groups, 5 shots each only. As nice as your shooting is, this does not count. Hook me up with another target with only 30 bullet holes and you will be golden. Nice shooting tho!!

Re: SemiAuto, 6 groups, 5shot each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

Nice shootin, Elfster! I'm looking forward to next weekend to see about tightening mine up some. Those are some nice looking groups and a sexy stick for sure. Those LMT's are impressive with the CL barrels. Have you had a chance to shoot one of the SS barrels to see how they compare?

Re: SemiAuto, 6 groups, 5shot each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

Not yet brother. Be honest with you I'm totally impressed with the CL and I really don't see the need for the SS right now. As of right now I'm totally happy with my current set up and my current go to load... Sheesshh, giving all my secrets away here. Maybe I should take down my reload info!! LOL JK

Re: The AR, 6 groups, 5shots each, 30 round SHOOTOUT!

BTW, I just changed one of the rules. Calipers only, no rulers. I got a feeling some of these guys with GAP's and OBR's are going to be battling it out between .05 of an inch,,,, so calipers only... no caliper measurements, then no go!! Sorry, but I think you all understand. If you don't have calipers, then go buy some as they are only $20 bucks!!

Oh this looks like it can be a lot of fun. Time to take out the ole M1A Super Match to see what she can do.

I love these challenges! Those half inch all day long gas guns are looking a lot harder to come by!

BTW... this is some good shooting here. It is tougher to actually consistently shoot a bunch of small 5-shot groups than it is to brag about it on the Internet. It takes some cojones to post actual real world results.

Man, I could have some better groups if I just called my fliers "sighters."
