11 twist 18 inch .308?

Q: Will an 11 twist .308 barrel when cut to 18inches stabilise 175gr bullets?

Q: If not, what weight will stabilise?

Any experiences gratefully received.

I have a 16" 308 (Gas Gun) and I have no problems getting out to 700 yards with it. I shoot 168 and 175's with no issues stabilzing the round. Go for it!

I have an 18.5" 11.25 twist 5R that works extremely well with 175gr SMKs and Hornady's new 178gr BTHP.

I just had one built 18" w/11.25 twist and got it to the range last week for a trial run..only made up 20 rds with 44.5 Varget and the 175's..only got it out to 500 but it looks promising. Just sent it to Kampfelds for some of his magic!!!

Your twist is fast enough, so you'll be ok. i'd say with a 12 twist you'd want a little more barrel but at 11 your ok.

Well Cigarcop, I would have to say that the accuracy of your gun and or you is badass. Those are groups that I would like/love to have out of my gun at that range. I have some like that at 200 and 300 but not at 500.

Thats what Im running with this 18" bartlien 1-11 twist sierra 175 with 42gr IMR 4064, lapua cases .010 off rifling.

this is a 5 rnd group @100 yards

Yes, that is obviously with the comparator on the calipers for base to ogive measurement.
