Any idea what kinds of powder would do best with these? Is H4350 too slow for them? Trying to get a feel for what powder speed will work best.
Before someone tells me to shoot 140s, I am and will but I want a load for the 120 as well. Makes more sense for me inside 1000y.
Any experience with that weight range of bullet in 6.5 is welcome. Thanks.

I’m using 42.3 H4350 with 123 Scenars with very good results in 20” Proof and Krieger AR barrels. Have also used AR Comp with care building to max in 36-37gr range. Also Varget in 38-39ish range.

I shoot 120s with N550 and RL17, the latter of which gives better velocity but isn't as temp stable.

Varget, IMR4064, H or IMR 4895, RL15, really any powder in that burn range is going to do well with the lighter bullet.

The 140's work better for me at 600+ over the Lapua 120's I am currently shooting.
My load is 43.2 H4350 and getting a bit over 3000 FPS out of a 25" barrel.

I’m using 123eld and 41.8 H4350 at 2900fps. I could go faster but I’m happy with .25 moa at 100 yards and hits a soda can at 700 yards with no problem.

A regular soda can or one of those skinny Red Bull cans? Be honest - this is important to this thread!

44gr varget was the original recipe printed on the Hornady boxes.

Both Varget and H4350 work well with bullets in the 120gr range. I’ve been using Varget with great results but am moving toward one powder for all bullet weights, so when the Varget runs out, I’ll be using H4350. From my 24” Bartlein, 2920-2940 seems to be where the best accuracy is.

No the original load for 120 AMAX was 44.5grns of H4350. Hodgdon lists 40.2grns as the max with Varget and the 120 so I would work up if wanting to get to 44grns.

Looking at different bullets BCs kind of wild that there isnt much difference between the 75gr ELD and the 6.5 120 ELD. The 6.5s BC really sky rockets at 140 for whatever reason.
