Who is launching the 6.5 140amax out to 1000? Im giving up on ever finding Berger's 140 hunting VLD, and was looking at using the 140amax as a sub. My only conscern is the loss of B.C., going from .595 to .550. Let me know what you fella's think, and what you are using. Thanks!

Re: 140 Amax out to 1000yrds

The old Berger data is 0.595, the new ones are radar tested at 0.613 for a G1

The Amax's are radar tested to be 0.585 for an average G1 as well.

I've shot them to 1000yd without any trouble from a 260 and 6.5-06, they're excellent bullets.

ETA: I have a box of the Bergers on the shelf (0.595 ones that you've been using) which I can get out to you if you want 1 more hit off it before you switch. I've been shooting the new ones and don't want to work out a load for the previous ones. Shoot me a PM if interested

If your lookin for Berger pills, try Jay at SportOptics here on the Hide, they are a Berger dealer. "Opticsspecialist" is his name here on the Hide!!

Re: 140 Amax out to 1000yrds

To those that have shot both the 140Amax and 140Berger did you find the Amax to be more forgiving than the Berger with regard to seating depth?

Have yet to shoot either but based on what I have read the Amax seems to have a pretty fat sweet spot on seating depth where as the Berger does not.

Did any of you find this to be true as well?????

Bergers are way more picky with seating depth than the Amax is, in my experience. But it will depend on your chamber. I would've had to single load the Bergers to get them into the lands. AICS mags were too short to run the 140vld for me.

Re: 140 Amax out to 1000yrds

I found the Bergers to be very fussy on seating depth. Anything out of 0.003" either way from the lands and I would see groups throw fliers that I KNEW weren't from me.

The Amax shoots very well at 0.010-0.025" off the lands in all the 6.5mm rifles that I've worked with.

Re: 140 Amax out to 1000yrds

I had to run the Bergers jammed 0.012 into the lands. If I changed anything up on the seating depth, everything went to hell. Im shooting the 75gr amax out of a 223ai, and it really doesn't care if it is jammed or seated back.

Re: 140 Amax out to 1000yrds

Shot many, many 140 AMAX to 1000 from my 6.5 Creedmoor. They work very well. The true BC is around .585 as stated. They are worth giving a try.

I load mine to .010" off the lands as I do with all my AMAX bullets.

Re: 140 Amax out to 1000yrds

Does any one know if real world BC of the 123 Amax is the .510 as stated, or if it is a little more or less?

Re: 140 Amax out to 1000yrds

AMax 6.5/140 is my primary bullet for 1Kyd F Class and my .260. It's been some time since I've actually shot that distance, but the projectile worked well.

I shot them out to 1200yd and they seem to run pretty well with a 0.495BC, not the 0.510 that is published.

1000' ASL, 60-95* temps, 2940fps avg MV.

Re: 140 Amax out to 1000yrds

love the 140 amax....had my kiddos dumping them into the 10 and the X ring a lot at 1000 some years back at ft wolters

Re: 140 Amax out to 1000yrds

my buddy runs the 140 a max in his 260 ai and does very well . he is 24.5 moa from 100 to 1000 @ 1500'

Re: 140 Amax out to 1000yrds

The 140 A-Max has no problem reaching out to 1k yards or meters in my 24" barrel 6.5 Creedmoor.

Re: 140 Amax out to 1000yrds

May be a little late, but Moly AMax's work well @ 3100FPS in my 6.5x55. I found them to be as accurate or slightly better than JLK's. I havn't tried Bergers in .264". Sub 1/2MOA at @1000 when I do my part.

Re: 140 Amax out to 1000yrds

My 6.5 Creedmoor POF runs the factory 140 Amax load at right around 2650 and the real world dope and JBM data jive 100% using a .585 G1 BC.

At 5500DA today I used 8.8mil at 994 to hit just as predicted.
