G'day,
I'm new to precision reloading and I'm working on getting bullet seating depth to a point where there is a small bullet jump to the lands. The quandry I've come across with the Berger 140Gr (Elite Hunter) is that at the point where the projectile is just touching the lands the OAL is longer than the magazine in my 6.5 Creedmoor Tikka TAC A1 and the bullet would barely be seated in the neck of the case. If I seat the bullet at 1x the projectile diameter (ish) into the neck, the jump to the lands is 0.192" aka considerably longer than the 5-15 thousands I've read is ideal for consistency.
So it doesn't seem possible to get into that 5-15 thou jump range with my rifle and this bullet - or am I missing something? So I'm looking for some guidance on how to make the best of this bullet in my magazine fed rifle and I'm particularly interested to know what is considered the minimum amount of contact depth with the bullet in the case neck for a magazine fed rifle.
The pic I've attached shows the OAL guage set to the point where the bullet is touching the lands and that round is longer than the mag. The other round is as I've been shooting (41.5Gr ADI 2209, MV 2735) and 0.192" jump to the lands.
Cheers,
Kelly Anne
