I know there are 1-12 that shoot 200 gr+ just fine and 1-10 that shoot lighter bullets just fine.

But on average how are the savage 1-10 shooting the 155's and which ones do they have better luck with?

how much recoil difference is there using a 155 vs a 178?

Re: 155 Palma in Savage 1-10

My dad had the Savage 10fp with the stock 1/10 twist barrel. We tried handloading from 155 to 175's and it shot best with 168's hornady match and 175 smk's loaded hot.I think we finally settled on the 175's as the most consistant. He has since put a 1/12 30 inch bartlein on it and it loves 155 smk's where it can reach proper velocity in the longer tube.

recoil-wise I never noticed much of a difference between the different bullet weights.

I'd say with that barrel you would get better results with 175 smk's pushed fast.

hope that helps.

Re: 155 Palma in Savage 1-10

My savage performed better today @ 1000 yards with the 155 scenars at 2920fps (27moa to target) than my 175smk's at 2725(34-35MOA to target. I shot 30 rounds, prone, with all but a few holding 1.5moa or better, and at least 1/3 of them shot within 1MOA, therebouts - not bad condidering the factory rifle and the novice behind it

.
The groups can and will get tighter - this was my first time ever at 1,000 yards and I still have some stuff to learn about reloading to get my velocities more consistent. But bottom line is it's 155scenars down the tube from now on.
