As the thread states id love a straight up answer with some wisdom to back it up. Ive got 550 pieces of once fired hornady match .308 brass and scored 5lbs of varget today. Ive had the 178s on order with midway for two months now and I see they have the 155s onhand. Ive been going back and forth as to what I should shoot but would really like to hear what you have to say.

rifle is a AE MKiii .308 1-12 24" shot through an Innovative Arms LDSP .308 can.
use is steel out to 1200m (hopefuly) and so matches as well.

My opinion, get the 155s and try them for now. I think you will really like them. You are referring to the 2156 Palma right? In any case you will have a very good bullet to tide you over until your 178s arrive.

My experience.
I've tried the 2155 and 2156 Sierra's. The old style 2155's were a no-go as well as the Hornady 155 A-Max. The new 2156's did better. The best I've shot in that weight range was the Berger 155.5's.
I've tried the Hornady 178's too. They didn't do any better for me that the 175 SMK. Some day I'd like to try a flat base 150gr. for the short line.

If I had your rifle I'd try the 155.5 Bergers, 185 Berger OTM or Jug., 175 SMK's, and the 125 Speer 125gr. TNT's (for under 300 yds). That's my list, in order, for your 1-12 twist.

Straight-up.
