155gr or 168gr Nosler CCs?

I'm low on .308 projos and have a VERY limited gun budget. I was planning on ordering 1,000 Nosler Custom Competitions, and I have a little over $200 to spend. I'll be shooting them out of two factory sticks: a 24" Savage (1 in 10) and a 20" Rem SPS Tact (1 in 12).

My main two criteria for these bullets is that: 1)they group very precisely on paper, hopefully 1/2MOA out to 500yds; and 2)I can ring some torso-sized steel with them at 1,000 yards.

Which would be the better, more precise-shooting choice - the 155gr or the 168gr? The 175 and 190s are just out of my budget. Thanks for any input!

buy 500 of each and see what rifle prefers what projectile and you can then find out the best way.

They should both work but i would try to get a few more dollars and buy 500 of the 155's and 500 of the 175's as i think the 175's are better than the 168's but get what you can afford.

I'd like to do just that, but to get 1,000 bullets for right around the $200 mark, I have to buy a bulk package of 1,000 of the same bullet. If I ordered them the way you suggest, I'd be paying close to $300.

well then get the 155's they will be best for shooting 1000 yards if you could afford the 175's i would but if not the 155's will work well for you.

Re: 155gr or 168gr Nosler CCs?

the problem with most 168's is they are based of an old verry accurate desighn and they do not hold enough velocity to stay stable to 1000 yards generaly and that would be true if they are based on the 168gr MatchKings. if you were shooting inside 600 yards the 168's would be perfect but for 1000 yards a 155 or 175 is better.

Spend the extra 40$ and get the 175 CCs, or just buy 500 of them now and 500 later. If you're dead set though I would go for the 155 - the thing is, it may not shoot well for you and then you'll be stuck with 900+ bullets that you can't use. The 175 is the only one I can say with confidence that it WILL SHOOT for you, and shoot well.

Re: 155gr or 168gr Nosler CCs?

I have run 168cc's and they will tucker out between 8 and 9 hundred most days (960asl), hits at 1k do happen just not as regular as 175's and 155 scenars. I have about 200 more of my 1000 to shoot then will be trying the 155cc's.

In my remington tact I should get 125-150 fps more than 168's as well. I am between 2710-2725 with 155's amax and scenars using varget. The 168's are at 2570ish

Wow you're a good 150+FPS lower across the board than my loads. I shoot only 168s and 155s out of a 26"

ya, thats a 20" factory barrel for ya. Same loads out of my rock barreled 308 of 21" is roughly 150-160fps faster, which is about the same as my 26" factory tube as well.

Ah a 20" that makes sense. I figured you were in the 18-20" range.

It looks like I'm leaning towards the 155gr Noslers. Any more opinions/thoughts before I place an order? Much appreciated.

Actually, the Nosler 168gr CC's have a better B.C. than the 155gr CC's, .462 vs. .450. The 175gr is .505 FWIW.

Re: 155gr or 168gr Nosler CCs?

Correct, but the 155 can run 150fps faster in the factory tactical and it seems to be more stable near the transonic stage than 168cc.

The 175cc are a good option but not sold in the 1000ct value pack.

If you're going to do the 155s go with the Sierra 155 palmas

Elevation and humidity probably aiding you to a large degree...

I like the 168s, not like I'm gonna shoot much past 600yds with a .308win anyway. Can't make 1000yds? Get closer!

Can't make 1000yds? Shoot a .30-06 or .300win
