It seems the general consensus is that 4895 or Varget is good powder of choice for the 155gr. scenars...

I have a boat load of RE15....anyone try it with win brass??

Not so sure how it shoots with lighter bullets..

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

It pretty common too. There is a good following of people using RL-15 with the 155 Scenar.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

I have used Re15 in Lapua cases with 155s. In my rifle about 45.5gr shot very well. My rifle seems to prefer Varget though.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

RL 15 didn't work out for me either. My stick loves Varget.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

I'm going to try Vargay here pretty quick, IMR 4895 works really good but is too temperature sensitive IMHO.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

Those of you having temp sensativity w/ imr 4895, try hodgdon's version. My dope doesn't seem to vary much from August heat in Ottawa to Nova Scotia chill last weekend. Havn't tried R15, since H4895 works so well for me.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

August heat in Ottawa is springtime in TEXAS, will try some H though.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

thanks guys...BUT i need RE15 loads nothing else....so keep posting...

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

RL15 didn't give me the accuracy or the velocity need so I switched to H4895 and have been very pleased with the results.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

I have been shooting RL 15 46.2 with Lapua 155 Bullet Lapua case runs about 2925 fps. for years it works great. 300yd F class target 1 1/2" x ring 595-40x and had no problem connecting with silhouette target at 1100 yds. At a 1000 yds 30 min. elevation. So far as temp. sensitivity using Rl 15 no problem at all .7 per degree of temp. increase from 75 degree load development temp. No blown primers even at 100 degrees. Fed primers very soft show some light catering but I switched to Russian Large Mag. Primers and they are harder material so no catering. By the way I have I think they are equal to or better than Fed. 210 or CBR 2 primers and at $79.00 per 5000. There has been a lot a discussion on these if you do a search.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

I used RL-15 in my 6BR, the load, 30.6grs with a Berger 108BT, well that load shot great in 95 degree temps. When I got to the Nationals the temp was 20 degrees cooler.. it really played havic with my load.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

Ok i have shot RL 15 with the 155s i couldnt get them to shoot as good as i wanted them to. as far as powder charges goes at 48.5 i was getting around 3200 with a 30 inch bbl. At 47.5 around 3150. 46.5 2950. I know they are good bullets i just cant make them shoot in my gun with RL 15

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

I tried RL15 today at The Team Bukkake Super Adventure Rifle Range, had two great groups, don't know the speed, I'm going to further investigate next week.

155 Scenar
Lapua brass
BR2 primers
coal of 2.860
45.7 RL15 grouped .199
45.9 RL15 grouped .138

24inch Rock 5r 11.27
OAT 82, Wind@12 oclock 15-25, DA 2600

lmao... the Super Adventure Range only goes to 800 for the time being, don't forget.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

Only from the berms, theres other places to shoot 1k from, like the road, no power lines there you flat shooting 6.5

427, Did you ever get a chance to chrono those loads? Awsome accuracy, curious to see how fast you have them moving...

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

No but it was 12moa at 600 yesterday, my guess is 2930 based on JBM, also I'm shooting HbN coated Scenars.

12moa, That is flat... What is the HbN coating? Thanks for the info

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

Can I assume that the coating is similar to moly.... Your applying that yourself, correct?

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

I use the BB and small jar method, it seemed to work the best with the Scenars, but completely screwed up some 178 Amax's.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

Loading 44.7 gr. RL-15 in LC 84 brass, BR-2, 2.820 oal with the 155. Very accurate but only 2650 out of a 20" Tikka.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

I used to run 155 scenars over 45.7 grains of RE15 in Win Brass, netted me about 2850 out of a 19" Rock barrel.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

I'm getting 2650fps out of a 26" 12 twist remington with 43.5 grains of RL15 in Black Hills Match brass and CCI BR2 primers. Accuracy has been really good!

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

I just tried some RE-15 for the first time with 155 SMK's in Lake City Match Brass and CCI200 Primers with 43gr of it behind the SMK's and... DAMN!!! I only shot at 100yds but that is the most accurate combination I've found yet for my 40X with a 1:12" twist. I literally put 5 of them into a dime I stapled up without breaking the edges or knocking it off the target!!! That means they pretty much went thru the same hole.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

My baseline go-to load is 45.2g of RL15 over a 155g Nosler J4 in a Winchester case. OAL to ogive is 2.227" with a BR2 primer. Velocity is a slow 2,668 fps average from a 20" barrel, and it;s as consistent as it gets.

I've also changed it up with Remington 9 1/2M and Winchester primers, mixed range brass, hot and cold temps, and it shoots into a no shit one inch group with however many rounds I fire regardless of the components or situation, which is why I use it to proof my shooting abilities when I'm developing new loads. It always works.

Using inexpensive J4s in the mixed brass gives me an awesome plinking load, and in new Winchester brass it shoots pretty tight for out to 600 yards.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

Awesome info, thanks guys. I am going to load my first batch of Nosler 155's with LC/LR brass, Wolf Primers and RL15. I will start with 43 grains of RL-15 and work up from there. I will post my results next week.

Re: 155gr. Scenars andRE15

Here are the results of my first reloads for the Nosler 155gr. Custom Comps with RL-15. I didn't have a chronograph so I don't have the velocities. 44.3 & 44.6 grains seem to be the sweet spots. No signs of any pressure either.
