I have a 16.5" BHW 308 barrel I was planning on loading 155gr smk,tmk or elds planning on shooting 600 to 700 yrds , I know a longer barrel is better but this one was free so I thought I'd give it a shot. Any load info would be greatly appreciated
In my opinion, I'd go with the 168s or 175s . Going heavier than the 155s will help buck the wind better . 155s to perform best need to be pushed fast and you dont have the barrel length for that . Again just my opinion, on all my short 308s the 168 Hornady bullets have been great even out to 900 yds for me. Just load the proven 308 loads that are out there. If you can be more specific what brass you'll be using, what powders..I can recommend somewhere to start at.

I'll be using mainly LC brass but I also have some Winchester brass, powders I have . Varget, H4895, cfe223, imr4166,ar comp. I was just gonna start shy of what hornady has listed for max and work up because every rifle load I shoot is over max according to hornady manual
Just be cautious Lake city brass has less case volume so your loads should reach pressure sooner . I use it and it's great brass but my loads are lower charge than when I use Winchester or Lapua . Hopefully you have or can get a hold of a chronograph to load develop.
In my 18" bolt gun I was getting 2625ish running Lapua or Winchester brass with varget and xbr 8208 . The lake city brass I use 175 smk or nosler and I'd get 2550 fps. On my Larue obr 16" I had before , the 175s were going 2450 fps but they were so consistent even out to 1100 yards at sea level. I tried the 155 scenar but the wind would throw em around too much .
