Too much alone time has led to me digging into my guns.

I've been looking through Midway and Brownells looking for a new barrel. Thinking of swapping my carbine gas system 16" for a mid-length with M4 feed ramps. It's not arbitrary, someone had a need for my carbine barrel, and offered me goodies in exchange, so this works out well for me.

Settled on: Adams Arms 4150 Chrome Moly Melonite 1:7 16" Mid-Length Gas System

4150 steel is good, yes? Chrome Moly Melonite also good?

So I get the barrel, fit it to my receiver, then use go/no-go gauges to check headspace. Am I missing anything?

Assume you have an upper receiver vise block? No fitting required, anitseize threads, torque until slot lines up for gas tube within torque spec range, install gas tube & block , then forearm. If you want to check headspace, not a bad idea but its pretty widely accepted that its not neccesary on the AR15 with spec parts, remove ejector and extractor from bolt first.
