I have a 16.5 inch proof 6.5 prc that I built as an ultralight timber gun suppressor host. I’m trying to work up a load that’s a good all around hunting load and I just got a sample pack of the 124s hammer hunters, I’m trying to decide what’s the best powder to push these, I have a good amount of h1000,h4831sc and imr 4831.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the best direction?

I only used RL26 with the 134gr hammers but they shot great groups at 100. Most likely was user error but I didn’t like the performance at 600yds so I stopped messing with them.

quickload says of the three powders, 4831 (both) works better than h1000 in this combo. Top speed is RL26. Rl16 is also great, as is vv n560, rl22, rl23.

I can find 16 and 23, I’ve have never used that software, does it it give a starting point on those?

Yes, quickload gives you estimates based on what you input. It has the ability to give you a table of estimates from a starting point, minus some percent below to some percent above. The data I input uses data trued to my powder lot in my experience, but should be close enough.
I input 62000psi as the max to get a table of all possible powders. Rl26 came out top, followed closely by the ones mentioned. I would caution you start at lower charges than what's shown here to validate your powder lot.
Edited this to give photo of propellant table using 16 inch barrel. Original used 24 inch.

I should mention that I use the hh124 with MAGPRO in a 24 inch barrel. My load of 60 grains MAGPRO gets 3000fps roughly in 24 inch barrel. My trued quickload data accurately estimates this load, along with other loads in another rifle.

I might have to invest in that program, that’s pretty cool. Thanks for the help on this I will try to pull together a load this week and I’ll report with the results
