.17 Rem AR15

I've built maybe 8 of them in the past. I didn't have any issues at all with them and they shot very well. The gas port needs to be properly sized, usually running .005" or more smaller than the 5.56's. I worked my way up from .070" or so and if I remember right got great function in the high .070's/very low .080's. Mid-length system with 18" bbl was smaller yet. Accuracy was excellent and the coyote hunters I built them for were very happy with them.

Be very careful running .17 in a semiauto. Dad had an uncontained failure two weeks ago shooting at a yote with his Remington. When he contacted them they said that they have stopped manufacturing semis for the 17 for that reason and to only use bolt guns for that round. I don't know the technical reason that they gave but I will ask him and post again. I did see the round and the separated case, looked scary!

Thank you. That is what I want one for coyote and bobcat. I see D-Tech offers it and was thinking of contacting them for a upper. I am assuming normal pmags work fine?
