    Loading for a:
    Ar15 chambered in 17 Remington
1/10 Shilen barrel (they do not offer 1/9 twist and others have said they have shot 25gr Vmax w/o issue.

And 30grain do not exist anymore except for a 1off run that was made 5 years ago on a Sunday, by someone that only sells on his shack woodchuck den, that is no longer available, and you have to know a guy , that knows a guy who might sell you his Secret stash, today only, not tomorrow. (you get the picture)

After long searches on multiple websites that take many days to just be “approved” to post or even search the web site....

CFE 223, Varget or precision, and 4198 are the powders I will try.

I believe 4198 even though it’s faster contrary to what we’ve been doing when we have been reloading the 22 Creedmoor using magnum powders.

Despite my Lymans manual showing IMR 4198 powder as “best groups in BOTH 25 &20 grain bullets, is only mentioned once by one member as his choice of powder. But this member also has had somewheres of 10 17Remington guns for the last 30 years plus and I take it with high regard. Funny, Hodgdon online reloaded does not even include it, but they also do NOT show H4350 or IMR 4350 being used in the 22CREEDMOOR either so take it with a grain of S””.

Today I’m going to be shooting 4198 with 20 and 25 grain Vmax, and HP hornady and some open nose 20gr Nosler cfe223 with 20’s
    @ 100 yard target

I did try to swage the brass to get a little more length out of the case that had mixed results to have it done properly I would have to have a bushing die and have solid rod fit in between the two as the reloading bench pulls the brass neck downward through the bushing die. It would have to be pulling downward to draw the brass neck up. I know it can be done I just don’t have the proper tools to do it.

Brass spring back was causing chamber issues I know this is a tight chamber cut the brass was too hard after being formed in the die, and using a torch was not working too well. used a DIY induction system fantastic not too soft perfect amount of heat. simple easy to use wish I would’ve picked up one of these a long time ago

Now the brass goes in and cycles to the chamber= no issues

Over 2,800 rounds can be loaded out of this 8pound jug! I just hope that it will have enough gas to run the AR. I do have an adjustable gas block on it we’ll see.

Well three or 400 rounds later just a note using the powder does not have enough gas to cycle the action without
    Doing the following:
1-Cut coils off a standard spring
2- you can use a lighter BCG and you’ll have to use in adjustable gas block

And you could have function issues over time because the spring will become more compressed unless you take it out of the gun and leave it out maybe I don’t know but you just have to know that it’s a little bit finicky if you do that.

For now I just switched back to a common AR 15 powder works great no function issues and gives plenty of velocity and accuracy.

Remington 17 you can use many powders I think it’s a great round I’ve been using converted 223 brass w/o issue.

I think the accuracy is pretty amazing. Its been a while since I’ve shot the gun I’ll have to see how long I can shoot it before the accuracy goes away but I haven’t really had issues with accuracy after shooting a long string but then again I don’t have a spot to shoot 300-400yards often.

Seems to shoot 25 grain bullets but then again I haven’t been past 100 yards yet so we’ll see I don’t think 30 g will work. We will see.
