So I recently purchased a Ruger Precision rimfire and can’t decide on scope magnification. I know that I will be installing a Vortex Diamondback Tactical FFP on it but I can’t decide on the 4-16x44 or the 6-24x50. I purchased the rifle for a couple of reasons. I do have the RPR gen3 in 6.5 Creedmoor with a Vortex PST genII 5-25x50 FFP. I’m hoping the rimfire will allow me to shoot more economically to practice for the full size. For this reason I think I’m leaning towards the 6-24 power. On the other hand, I imagine this will make it out prairie doggin and I feel like the 4-16 may be better for the decreased magnification. With the distance restrictions placed by the rimfire, I ask myself if the 6-24 is necessary. But, is the 6-24 going to get me closer to the real deal and allow for better practice set up? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Especially on lower end scopes, they tend to work best towards the middle of their mag range. So I'd feel better about running the 6-24 at 16x than the 4-16 personally. But I don't have both of them to compare either - it's just a thought.

I have both. The 6 can focus closer but the 4 has more travel. The image quality on both is the same as far as I can tell but I’ll have to get them out side by side and check now that I think about it
