That's the combination I have readily available right now, and I'm trying to work up a load.

Any ideas of a good starting point? I'm running a Savage 10P .308 20" barrel.

Here's some previous load data:

PPU commercial match brass
IMR 4064 42.5 grains
smk 175s
COAL 2.80 (.005 off the lands)
CCI Large Rifle Primers
2575 fps

LC LR brass
IMR 4064 42 grains
AMAX 178
COAL 2.81
CCI Large RIfle Primers
Velocity unknown. ballistic calculation shows just south of 2600

these were both determined using the OCW test. These were mid nodes. Pressure signs started at around 43-43.5 with both loads

I'll be developing my next load with
LC LR brass
RL-15
amax 178
COAL 2.81
CCI large rifle primers.

Any help determining a min and max point for the rl-15 would be great. THANKS!

In my RL-15 days, I started at 41 and went up to 45 in lapua brass.

I'd use the same data you were using with IMR4064, the 2 powders are that close in burn rate, that's been my experience. For the 30-06 I use 50grs of either with 165/168s.

The powder manufacturer website only lists their AR Comp powder weights for the 178 amax. Doesn't make sense to me.

Hornady manual states start at 34.8 and max at 41.4 for rl15 and 178 amax

Looks like the m118lr load was between 31.1 and 31.3 grains using the 175 smk and most have said load data between 175 smk and 178 amax are almost identical but for coal.

Another hide member who has used this combo said his loads were between 43 and 44.5. The ranges from hornady seem remarkably low.

I dont have my book with me but your numbers look similar to my 4064 data.

With the 178 bthp/178 amax I am currently using 43.2 relaoder 15, 210m primer, federal brass. Seating depth was .030 off. Coal for me is 2.840 and fit in a aics mag. I last bought 1500 of the bthps and weight variation was 177.1 to 178.4 with a couple around 175 and 176. This load worked exceptional in my savage and in my AO built rem 700. 1 hole groups. I also use 43gr 4064 and 43.5 of varget. The 43gr of 4064 worked good in the savage, not as good in the rem. The varget load I developed after I got rid of the savage but it shoots one hole groups out of the rem.

A bit longer than I've been loading, but the load data is looking pretty close to what seems to be working well or my savage with rl15.

43.1 gr
LC 11 brass
Federal 210 primers, Win primers
175 SMK, 178 AMAX
2700 fps
26 inch barrel
AAC 7.62 SDN-6

I've gone to 43.3 but the best node was at 43.1.

Work up to this load.
One of my all time favorite loads is
44.3 grain RL15
178g amax, or 175g smk
Winchester brass
gm210m primers
Do not use military brass with this load case capacity is to low and you get high pressure in most guns.
