I’m having a 18.5” OMR carbon barrel put on my creedmoor, I’ve always shot the Berger 140 elite hunter with either h4350 or RL26 with my old 24” barrel, and I’m not sure where to start with a short barrel..any powder/ bullet recommendations for a short barreled creedmoor?

Elite Hunter Bullets are identical in construction, shape and performance to the Berger Hybrid Target series

A reputable member here mentioned he had berger factory 140 Hbyrids clocked @ 2650 from 18.5in barrel.

that would be great for me! Wonder if he was using h4350? Do you believe the rl26 will be too slow burning for a 18.5” barrel?

If R26 wasn’t magic enough....it works well in 18” barrels.

Getting 2835 with 135 Berger classic hunter.

should have known. That’ll be my first powder attempt when the barrel is spun up! Lucky I got about 13lbs of it at the moment!

Same same, start slightly lower than load you were using in 24" barrel and work up.

I have a 18” that shoots the factory 140 hybrid Berger’s at 2620 with a SD of 7. Wanted to recreate the load with H4350 and came to this: lapua brass, CCI 450, 42.5 H4350, and CBTO 2.130”.

Then I decide to push it a little more at 43.0 grains and got 2660 FPS. Used that last week for a match at GTI. It was solid out to 800 and drop was only 6.0 mils.

I’m going to start with rl26 but will definitely try some h4350 as I’ve had good luck with it. But hoping to recoup some speed with the rl26. Would love to try Rl16 as well but can’t find any. Might have to switch from cci450s to 400 soon too

I got 2600-2650 143-ELDX/140-ELD with 41.4g of H4350. I also had it up in the mid-2900s with 123s (SMK/ELD). Mine loved the 143s.
I’m doing almost the exact same with the 143 and it rocks out of an 18” krieger. I also load the Barnes 127 lrx with h4350 and it’s awesome also! If you need more exact load numbers send me a pm

I have a 18" 1:8 Rock Creek by PVA on an ARC Nucleus that now has 231 rounds through it. Shooting yesterday on a sunny 50F day, here is what my Magnetospeed V2 recorded:

Hornady 140gr ELD-M factory ammo: 2585fps
Berger 135gr Classic Hunter factory ammo: 2512fps
Berger 130gr Hybrid factory ammo: 2658fps
Berger 130gr Hybrid over 39.5gr Varget: 2645fps

Have not shot at extended ranges to confirm recorded velocity figures, but the Magnetospeed provided expected velocities from my Dasher. I will say the 130/39.5gr Varget load velocity was 60-100fps lower than my expectation.

I did previously have a 18" 1:8 Criterion Rem-Age 6.5 Creedmoor with about 900 rounds through it that pushed a 140gr HPBT at 2640fps over 42.5gr H4350.

Looking to develop loads for a 18in AR10 6.5 CM for use on pigs. I am thinking bullets in the 120-130 range would be better to help with the pressures in the AR platform. Also since I will be hunting 500 yards and under, I was thinking the 120-130 class bullets would be better because they are flatter closer in. What are thought's on this? The hornady 123 SST seems like a good choice.

Additionally, do you guys think H4350 is suitable for 120-130gr bullets in an AR10, or is it a bit too slow? I hear RL16 maybe better, but I am sitting on a fair amount of H4350

120 TSX
120 GMX
VARGET would be better but probably can make H4350 work.

The TSX and GMX look good, but those monolithic bullets are almost twice the price of SSTs or even gamechangers. Are their performance really that much better? I am in FL and the pigs are not giant.

100 / 120 Nosler BT, 120 SMK, 120 Berger, 120 Scenar works fine also.
I’ve not used game changers so unable to comment either way.
SSTs have never been an “accurate” bullet for me compared to other bullets listed above.

I did Florida pigs for 42 years and your way over thinking it. There pigs! Use bullets that you can easily get, find a load and shoot them. This isn’t your once in a lifetime bighorn sheep lets be serious.

I shoot 130 Bergers in a 22" AR10 using H4350.

Did a ladder this weekend with my 18" bolt gun.

Brass: Hornady
Powder: RL26
Primer: BR2
Bullet: 156 Berger
COAL: 2.875

Grains-velocity
45.2-2525
45.5-2543
46.1-2584
46.4-2590
46.7-2618
47-2654
47.3-2651
47.6-2665
47.9-2664

Had slightly flat primers at 47, slight cratering and could barrely see the ejector in the brass at 47.6 and 47.9 so I stopped. Going to load in the 46.1-46.4 node and see how it shoots. Really surprised at the velocity, now just gotta find more RL26.

What twist barrel? I've been considering trying the 150 SMKs/156Bergs, but not sure if it'd be a waste of time with a 1:8.

1:8 should be fine for anything you’ll ever shoot through a creedmoor. I’ll be trying some RL26 behind the 140s before too long
