185 Jugs for .308

Worked up 3 shot group loads round robin with 185 Jugs at 200 yards from 46.0 to 47.5 grains. The 46 grain load shot one ragged hole vertically, while the 46.6 and 46.9 shot around .7 to 1 MOA but on the same plane. The speeds are higher than average than what it shows on the Nosler Reloading website. The average load speeds are as follows in the 26 inch barrel:

46.0 - 2732 fps
46.3 - 2747 fps
46.6 - 2759 fps
46.9 - 2774 fps
47.2 - 2795 fps
47.5 - 2,825 fps

Nosler website shows 46.5 grains as max, and I had no pressure signs and groups got worse past 46.9 grains and it looks like I'll redo again from 45 grains to 46.9 grains, and see what pops up. Maybe there is a node in the mid 45 to 46 grain area. The ES spread is not what I liked.

The max speed of 2,825 fps are similar to 30 06 speeds, that MR2000 is moving, but ES is not what I liked. If these loads will not work, I'll try Varget since it works very well for me with other loads in the .308

What speeds will be in the accuracy node window if using the 185's?

I ran a lot of them in sample of three different barrels, one of which was thousands and the other two just a full load development. I tried power pro 2000 and RL15 but never got the accuracy or ES/SD I was happy with compared to Varget. Varget is the ticket.

Using Lapua brass all three barrels had a solid node at 44.0-44.5gr but the barrel I ran for a while with them had an even tighter node higher and 45gr was the ticket. This is a HOT load though, work up and use caution. It was too hot in the other barrels, the one barrel it was fine except for rain. One rainy day it was blowing primers out of the cases and absolutely trashed the brass, I threw over 50 pieces of Lapua in the trash from that. Velocity for the 45gr load was 2780fps in a 24" AINA Bartlein.

I also remember there being a node down lower around 43gr. I'd start at 42gr and work up to be safe.

I would recommend starting them .020" jump. They're very jump insensitive and still shoot very well at even extreme jumps but ,020"-.030" was the sweet spot in all three barrels.

This is with Varget? I am thinking to switch back to Varget and try with the 185's

Varget- anywhere from 42.0-43.5 shoots .5 moa to 1250 yds from this rifle. 42.6 yields 2600 fps and single digit SD’s with 15 fps ES. 43.1 gives me 2630 with single digit SD’s Varget is ticket year round for me.

I found excellent accuracy with IMR4064 except the node was slightly slower and narrower than Varget. 41.6-42.0 gives me 2580 fps. When I run out of Varget, this is the load I go to.

Loaded up charges from 41.1 to 43.3 grains of Varget and 185 Jugs with 9 o clock wind of 12 mph. Did round robin at 200 yards, groups are kind of all over the map. But i see #4 and #5 charges are pretty consistent with low ES except for the 3rd round on #4. The #8 group shot nicely but not sure if its a great spot to pick without trying charges of 43.5 and 43.8 grains first. Should I try #4 and #5 again with seating depth change? What is the speed where I may find a good node with 185 Jugs? Below are fps off the Oehler P35.
