Has anybody shot these much out of a 308? What velocity?

Thanks,
Rich

Yep, just under 1000fps.

Re: 190's in 308

I've gotten them up to 2800 fps with N550 and over 2700 with RL-17.

But my current load is 42.3 gr. Varget in Lapua brass, seated to 2.775" (0.040" off the lands). Excellent groups and very temperature stable. Velocity is just over 2600 fps.

running a 12 twist 2625fps, buddy runs a 21 inch 1:11 twist at 2550fps, both loads are more accurate than we'd admit on the internet, and both work at 1k yards at 1100 asl. Lowest temp thus far is about 40f so can't speak to DA effects but can say from very recent experience that 190's running 2500 from a 1:12 don't stabilize all that well.

Re: 190's in 308

Thanks,

I have 1 box each of 190 gr SMKs and Berger VLDs. Didn't want to "waste" them in 1:12" barrels as I have a couple 1:10" barreled 30 cals. They are sporter weighted 30-06 and .308 respectively so the true accuracy potential of these rounds may not be revealed in them.

I don't have a chronograph but will load some of these up in .308 ( for the 1:12) and see what results.

Thanks.

I've shot the 190 Sierra's from mine 1:10 twist and they are accurate.

I haven't chrono'd them yet.

Re: 190's in 308

2630'ish is right on the OBT node with powders of that burn rate (Varget, RL-15, IMR4064...). Anything around there should shoot very well.

Re: 190's in 308

Thanks all for replying. I have a Savage 10, stock barrel, everything else changed. Will try and see how they do. I think I will try the 2600 fps range and start there.

I shoot a Savage 10FP LE2b and have shot the 190 SMKs with very accurate results. They are a heavy bullet, but the Savage's 1:10" twist can handle that weight, but there is a bit more of a thump in recoil with that heavier bullet.

I can't say that my 26" barrel has gotten them up some of the velocities quoted here, but I mostly shoot 100 yds, so I'm not looking at that last Nth degree in speed, either.

I've also found great accuracy shooting the 185gr Lapua Scenars and IIRC, I'm at about 2550 with them, which puts me a little 'less flat' out to 1k than some of the lighter bullets, like the 155 Scenars and/or the 175s.
