2 DAYS LEFT: This Target Haunts Me Contest
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
I bought my first 1911 a few months ago (thanks for the suggestions) and I need more mags. Is a Springfield TRP a commander, government, or officer? And what are the differences (doesn't hurt to learn something)?
Its a full sized "government" model. Chips are good and they are for the most part pretty cheap. I use my Chips just for the range. When I am carrying my Kimber I use Sig or Wilson mags.
The most important part of carrying a 1911 is what ammo works best. My Kimber loves Federal HST's but I know many 1911's do not. Find the right mag and ammo combo and you'll be happy.
If I am not mistaken:
Government = 5" barrel/ Full size frame
Commander = 4-4.25" barrel/ Full size frame
Officer = 4" barrel/ Shorter Frame
I use the Wilson Combat 47D mags, I personally haven't had any trouble with them. But I have also heard good things about the Tripp mags as well. And welcome to the 1911 club.

The TRP is a 5" Gov't model. Wilson ETMs work well in it and so do Nighthawk Custom Mags (which are cheaper). My TRP did not like SA mags.
Barrel: 'normally' 5 in Government, 4.25 in Commander, and the 3.5 in Officer's ACP. The 'normal' Gov't mags (7/8 rd) will work in the Officer's Model - but the Officer's (6rds) will NOT work in the Govt/Comm. However, be careful on an Officer's model NOT to slap the Govt mag too much as your may damage the weapon.
