Re: 1911 Slide Lightening / Machining Question

Find a 1911 Comp gunsmith to make the cuts (send it back to Wilson). Though it's only for competition use to speed up the slide and not for a carry pistol as it let's crap inside.

Re: 1911 Slide Lightening / Machining Question

Removing that much metal from the 1911 slide will require a lot of tuning...spring tensions, ammo, change in sight height, etc...since the pistol depends as much upon the inertia in the mechanism as on the springs, if you change the inertia operating patterns, you'll have to balance it with springs. That is one reason it can be hard sometimes to get a short barreled .45 to work properly. Find a good pistol smith and get him to tune it properly after cutting the holes. Won't be cheap. JMHO

Re: 1911 Slide Lightening / Machining Question

The OP is most likely fully aware of the tech challenges of significantly altering the weight of the reciprocating parts.

Wish I could point you to someone. "Signature" designs notwithstanding, there's plenty of room in the world to execute a design change without it rising to the level of copying someone else's work.

No one complains about John Moses Browning or Colt's Patent Firearms getting cheated by "knock-offs" made by Taurus, Kimber, SIG, S&W, Caspian or Wilson now, do they?

Makes me wonder if that's a good candidate for an EDM job...

This is just something I'm lookng into...Might also have notches in rear of front sight too ...don't know exactly what I want yet ...still researching and looking at the pro's & cons of doing this type alteration

The lightened slide along with a lighter spring will make the gun track better. You should try it, I think you'll like it.
