193 v 855

193 on soft items.
855 on harder and larger items, that might have gotten close. Where accuracy isnt as critical. Is true, most 855 sucks, its 3-4 moa designed for belt movement.
Need both.

On the pests, 55 gets them big or small. 855 zips through, only reliably does 250 pounds or bigger.

Thanks. I've been heavy on m193 but people keep talking up 855 lately.

I'm partial to vmax amax and tmk for soft targets. I hear sp are good too. Was thinking about picking up some of this stuff:

Both of those Federal offerings do well, but will penetrate deeper, will go through small targets like 855, works really great on 250# pests or gray grocery carriers that u dislike so much. ?

The 64 in a different packaging was duty carry for FB1's. Some of it got to Iraq and it penetrated auto bodies much much better than 855.... food for thought.

The XM 855 are inaccurate as they are ones that are rejected for our military and bulk packed to insure some are damaged in shipment. the last 1,000 that I received I checked with a case gage [highly recommend you do to] an over 5% were rejects. Bullets so crooked that did not need the case gauge and some looked like they had been beaten with a hammer.
Also have a Tavor that I had to return to IMI to remove a stuck case and their diagnosis was an over pressure round. If you must have the XM 855 try to find them in ammo cans on stripper clips, you will have fewer rejects.
Another downer for the XM855 is no one will let you shoot their steel.

M855 doesn’t penetrate body armor that you’re likely to encounter domestically. Beware black tip. If it’s 50-53gr it might be the good stuff. More likely it’s foreign made SS109. I can’t think of any reason to buy M855 over M193 except resale.

If you come across a decent stash of M855A1 and the price doesn’t give you convulsions, buy it. It’s a strong mix of terminal ballistics on soft and armored targets and some of the most accurate ball ammunition fielded. It will penetrate a lot of commercial hard armor but not ESAPIs. Auto body performance is compromised by the fact that it separates into various parts, but some of them are large.

The bonded 55-64gr bullets whether it’s federal barrier or fusion or gold dot are a strong choice and penetrate cars well. They penetrate autos better from short barrels than long.

Mono's, in afterbuner punch better, unless your at 3100fps or better with those.
In reality a 69 gr SS109 loaded into a 308 or better with sabots an IMR 4227 are 10X better than those. In a 300wm my cronny can't keep up but the 308 throws them (ss109's) right at 4000K. Speed is the key to punching any barrier, bullet construction comes in second,...
