Hey guys,

Im new to the forum and figured that I would share one of my vintage "sniper" rifles. It is a BCD 4 russian capture converted by RDO Specialties to a Long Side Rail Sniper. Rifle was already built using Iron Elite made LSR and scope. The number 4 is stamped on the bottom of the base. I'm showing as clear pics as I can to record the fact that this rifle is a complete repro build. I can't find a import mark on it. The barrel looks great. Strong rifling and mirror shiny. Crown looks good too with some character dents on top but nowhere near the crown. Robert Krenzel of Iron Elite made the mount and scope. The base is a solid machined piece instead of a spacer being used.

I have only shot it a couple times with cheap Romanian surplus 8mm. I cant say that Im the biggest fan of the German three post reticle. The verticle post in the sight picture is too thick in my opinion and doesnt come to a sharp point like Soviet PU, PE, and PEM scopes. Not that rifles in similar configuration hadnt been responsible for long range shots during WW2, I just think it will take me awhile to get used to it. Let me know what you guys think.

These were the pics I got from the previous owner. The only change I made was to add the "correct" checkered butt plate.

recrown it,and quit to shoot surplus ammo, even if the rifle comes from russia_ handload for it with good ingredients, and overall remember that the eyes behind the scope at the time weren't the eyes of some aged Hollywood's Major Konrad, but the eyes of properly trained boys in their '20s...'nuff said_(p.s.:are you sure that the milled handguard/floor plate assembly is correct for a 1944 K98k?)

Very nice!

I hope you can post a range report with some good ammo. I know Chad never got around to it when he had it, even though I bugged him to go out and shoot it. LOL

If you can get ahold of some Yugo M75 ammo, or handload, I'm sure you'll have a great shooter on your hands.

Hey Joop,

I recognize your name from gunboards. I was able to make a smiley face at 50 yards with Romanian surplus. It's pretty inconsistent. I'd say ammo and optics are the variables I need to change. I'm very tempted to put a PE scope on it for a range day just to see how much better I do. I guess I should track down some M75 also like you say.

Re: 1944 K98 LSR Recreation

Cool!

If you were to sell that scope, you would likely make enough to get a post-war, original German scope with a reticle more to your liking and it would still have the look and feel of the real thing. I'm not sure what the market price would be for the Iron Elite, but I'm willing to bet that you'd have enough money left over to get some ammo.

I have an SSR clone (coincidentally, I got that mount from Chad, too) that loves the M75 ammo. When that runs out, I'll have to work up a handload.

very nice!

Makes me wonder what the hell is happening with my bnz '43 LSR with pre-war Zielsechs build at Miltech.....been well over a year (after headspace problems with the initial donor rifle) and still waiting!

+1 on what Joop says about an original German scope. I have ZF39 Zielvier and Zielsechs - fantastic glass (although if you have click adjustments on your scope you may not like the original non-click elevation)
