1st kestrel battery change will it lose data

As title says. Should I write down some of the data to save me time or will the kestrel save the data for the quick battery swap.

Write it down. I have had the Kestrel keep data, as well as drop data, when swapping batteries.

i don't have the kestrel that has a ballistics program, just the basic kestrel (temp, humidity, wind, dens altitude, etc) with bluetooth and the custom screens i created aren't lost when i take out the batteries. i do take them out after every match and leave them out til the next match as they gave me a hard time about replacing a broken kestrel despite zero crud being on the terminals.

I believe it says to store the Kestrel with batteries out so I can't imagine they would delete any info. I've never had mine delete anything anyways.

I would always check it's still in there before I get to a match though.

Mine has always retained the data.

I think they recommend to back it up first, but I just changed the battery in mine and forgot to do a backup first. It retained everything I had in it.
