Hey finally got to pick up my rifles from GAP last week and I can never say enough great things about Karey or Tracey and also stopped by Badger to visit Marty and as usual that guy is a class act that is a genius and gentleman in his own right. Everybody is polite at GAP & BO and my daughters love viiting their shops. So enough said here is my 1 rifle and the other one belong to my two daughters

Daughters
It is a Remington 700 VLS in .243 Win that is pillar bedded and I rechanneled the barrel groove, but while away I had GAP cut and crown the 26" barrel down to 22", mount a BO 20 moa base, and set them up with BO rings and reducers. For a scope they're using an old Leup of mine and FXIII 12x40 with .25 moa adjustments for elevation and windage. Still trying to find a round it likes but as of now shooting .75 MOA with factory barrel and 95 gr SSTs. This rifle is a joy to shoot and I really liked getting back to the wooden stocks. I think all too often in todays shooting world we forget the beauty of old wooden stocks with all the new race guns

My rifle
It started out as a virgin SPS Tactical that I dropped off before deployment. It is small, light, and and very fun to shoot. It is sporting a Bartlein 20" threaded barrel with a 1/10 twist in order to handle several bullet weights and a Badger heavy recoil lug connects it to the action. Of course the Badger Ord M5 was a necessity for quickness of reload and varying bullet types and weights. I also opted for the US Optics 20 moa base which I liked the look and the idea that it has a closed left side and on top of that is a Badger ACI. For bipods I also got the Harris BR with podlock. The stock I went traditional with the McMillan A-5 with 3 way and thumbwheel stock. The front rail is the Badger EFR. For a trigger I went with a Jewel. I know some guys here don't like them, but I've always been a fan and love them. As for the scope I know it is mounted high. It wasn't meant for this rifle and those are the rings a BORS comes with. I originally ordered a US Optic Tpal with H25 reticle but we all know the story with Horus as of late. Not going to go there. I only want to say that John at USO is a stand up guy and kept me informed and at this time my scope could not be built. But right now it is wearing a Leupold Mark4 M1 with the collocated BORS that I am just toying and messing with. It has exactly 60 rounds down the throat and most of those were break in and zero. Right now it is grouping .395 moa from the prone with 175 gr Sierra HPBT. The only thing weird about the target is the 5th round that flew on the 3 o'clock side cut the paper weird so almost looks like 6 rounds but it is not but oh well. 5 rounds at the end of shooting day. This was done at Fancy Creek Range in KS and the people there I just met are also all wonderful and insightful guys.

The BORS I peronally feel is a good tool for what it can do, but I feel that if you are beginner you should stay away because it can do so much for you that there is no learning by experience. You just input your round and rifle info, zero, confirm zero into BORS, slip ringsand then just turn the knob and it tells you what range you are dialed into, either in yds or meters. It has a built in cant level and at all times can tell you your temp and barometric pressure. It figures out angle fire and with lithium batteries it supposedly has a 30 hour battery life, with a green light, but call me old, I love dialing it in the old way and looking up and working out my data. Don't get me wrong I know there are newer and better ways to operate or shoot and I use them as evidence here, but I love the traditional way of dialing everything in and figuring it out myself. It is the mathematics of shooting that I enjoy. The trial and error, to me make, it interesting especially when you hear that gong and you did the work. But as a tool for certain situations, it blows your mindand how advanced we have become. not to mention it is pretty TactiCool

Thanks for the post..

Since I'm new to long distance shooting, I wouldn't get it just yet for the facts you stated about it taking some of the thinking out of the equation.. One of the reasons I wanted to get into L.D.S is for the challenge(Math and Science) of the shot/s.. I don't really want a computer doing all the work, or do I?? lol I say this now, who knows how I feel once I get going. lol

Thanks again..

Nice rifle, looks hot.

I understand what you are saying about modern tech. I use it but at the same time im a big picture learner so just accepting thats what the tech says doesnt cut it for me. I need to know how to do something even if i didnt have all of the fancy gear. Im still working on it, but in the end a solid understand of everything involved is important (to me anyway) than a bit of kit that does it for you.

Seriously sweet looking setup man
