20,000 heat seeking AA missles "missing" !!!!!

Worse than originally thought, 20,000 shoulder fired heat seeking AA missles with a range of over 11,000 feet are for sale on the streets in the Mid East, training time for operator 2 minutes (if stupid), 1 minute otherwise. Along with these problem childern, mustard gas, large stocks of RDX, mines, etc. So much of the "good stuff" was stolen, the boys left large amount of small arms ammo-seems everyone in that part of the world has plenty of ammo.
100 tons of drugs, and millions of human bodies flow across our southern boder every year, it doesn't take an expert to figure some of this stuff could Easily find its way here. I'm guessing some will, and soon. Sorry to say, I believe several Civ AC will be shot down, and a lot of Americans will die before an "expert" in DC figures out-it may be time to guard our southern border. Hope I am wrong, and not one American is hurt in anyway. With these types of numbers I think we are in for a new round of terror, by Al and the like.

I'll be danged if I'll let terrorists, or their domestic pawns, put me off taking advantage of the modern transportation network. If I go down that way, at least I'm old and my contributions to the world are largely behind me; small loss. So I give them the mental finger and move on with my life despite them.

I haven't flown with guns since 2002.

No sense in giving politically hostile hacks and their minions a broadside shot at me and my preferences. I may dance to their music, but I'll never sing along.

If it needs to get done, I'll drive; it's more colorful down here anyway.

I have been surprised at how little press-play this has gotten. If the U.S. Army would lost a couple of Stingers (had stolen, etc.)the press would have acted as if "the sky was falling". We taught the afgans how to use "Red-eyes", to great success againt the Soviets, that knowledge is still there. I don't mean how to point and shoot, but how to deploy for greatest effect etc. After 9-11 we had a 100% grounding of all AC in the US-for good reason. If (when)these SA-7bs start flying, the grounding could be for a much longer time, imagine the effect on business, medicine etc. A handful of people from the Mid-East made a pile of cash shorting the effects of 9-11, these guys were lucky I guess, as it was if they had advance knowledge. I wonder how the market in Airline stocks, AV gas etc. is going to react. Our border security as it stands right now is like trying to stop BBs with a tennis net, I hope for our country, it gets a lot better, FAST.

You can have intel two different ways. We seem to prefer getting ours anymore after the cows have left the barn. Much cheaper, an easier to be 100% correct that way. If the story, the state run media is piping, is in fact true. As always YMMV.

I was into this issue when America went into Afghanistan in 2001.

I have to say that there is a mountain of articles about the subject and the more you read, the more you see that some of the data contradicts itself, such as the mention from this report that RPG and AAA attacks are often mistaken for MANPADS attacks.

My point in all of this, is that even though it is a credible threat, because there isn't a steady stream of training for terrorist groups they are forced to wing it(No pun intended).

Most of these weapon systems were designed to be used by a few of the world's dominant superpowers. There is usually significant training involved with these weapon systems, and more then one person is there to assist the person pulling the trigger. Also coupled with the resources, that a superpower would have, such as drone aircraft for aerial gunnery training and proficiency.

All of this is simply not available to a terrorist group.

It costs quite a bit a money for them to even purchase and discretely ship the weapon system, and it would take far more currency to invest in training. There are supply and training issues associated with these groups also. And I really haven't seen anyone mention those.

Is this a credible threat? Yes, but then again, what is also a threat to airline commuters? Have shoulder fired SAMs killed more airline passengers than any other problems or accidents?

Terrorist come across the Mexican borders in four teams of four, armed with MAC-10s or something they bought in Mexico. They then execute a synced attack in 4 major metropolitan areas....

effect: noone wants to go out anywhere for the fear of a new attack...
