Looking for .20 br/bra load data.

With 15 rds down my .20 bra barrel, I’m looking for the most utilized powder (speed/temp stable, case fill). I’d like to get into 3800 fps safely.

My current load is as follows:

    20” medium palma 1:11
    40 gr v-max
    AA2520 at 31.0 grains
    2.007” col (.040” jump)
    3592 fps (avg)

    Powders on hand-
    Varget
    H4895
    Staball comp
    H335
    RL15 and 17
    Benchmark
    H4350
    IMR 3031
    Cfe223

    There’s .20BR data on Hogdon’s website.
3800 with TAC or Big Game looks pretty easy. Wouldn’t think it’d be too hard, with CFE223 in particular.

    I don’t load for .20, but I do for .17 and .14.

I have a good sub cal Loading manual and am glad to look up some numbers for you over the weekend.

Always nice to see another sub cal aficionado here!

    That’d be much appreciated🍻

    I’ve checked hodgon’s and 6mmbr.com

Looking for off the grid data. Powders that work regardless of burn rate.

Not real sure what you mean, but good luck with it.

Be very careful going off the grid with sub calibers.

Small cork in a big bottle makes it all too easy to create a grenade instead of a cartridge!

I’ll see what I have for you, though.

Essentially looking at common case capacities to the br, powders that recently hit the market (such as Winchester Staball match), double base powders, extruded vs ball, etc…

Same challenges people have been faced with when loading wildcat cartridges. I prefer to run the slowest burn rate/pressure powder with 90-98% case fill.

I did a quick proof pressure test with 8208 and h4895. As to no surprise, h4895 performed admirably (29.3 grains netted an avg 3680 fps with no pressure signs and a silky extraction).

I’ve got some Staball match and h355 loaded up. I’m willing to bet Staball match will get me close to 3700-3850 fps safely. My ladder test will start at 28.5 and end at *33 grains.

*33 grains was just shy of the neck/shoulder junction.

Indeed. I’m not blindly loading off other cartridges/calibers. I’ll be playing around with neck tension (.230 or .232 bushings), but that’s a moot point until I find a powder that offers the best case fill and is readily available.
I’m hoping Staball match is a viable option.

I thought you were probably on the right track when you mentioned 4895.

Let us know how it goes! Love the subcal stuff. And think it's where a lot of development is going to occur next few years. Hypervelocity little rounds are very, very useful! Much potential!

    AA2520/31.00/40 vmax/3592 fps

No b/s, the first 15 rds down the tube (3 to zero, 12 is a knot).

Just finished a 20 practical AR build. My first subcal. Shot it the other day at 50 yards after laser aligning the scope and for breakin purposes. So impressed with accuracy and minimal to zero recoil. First shot was low but the rest grouped very well
