COMPETITION DYNAMICS presents The
2018 STEEL SAFARI
June 1-3 at Logan, NM
steelsafarisun.png

The Original Hike And Shoot Match.

The Steel Safari is the archetypal "hike-and-shoot" long-range rifle match. It tests a wide spectrum of skills involved in getting to a shooting location, identifying targets, and engaging long-range rifle targets with only one shot each. Some of these skills include target recognition, ranging, wind doping, ballistic data management, marksmanship under field conditions, non-standard shooting positions, rudimentary trail skills.

The STEEL SAFARI is the longest-running field-style rifle match in existence. Dave Wheeler started it in 1998. The crew that is now Competition Dynamics started shooting there a few years later, competing ourselves up through 2006. In 2007, Zak took over the match as MD from Dave, with help from Mike K. and Michael F. CD has been running it since then. 2018 will be our 12th year administering this match, and the match's 21st year. A couple years ago, JP Enterprises bought the Blue Steel Ranch and we are very pleased to be working with them on events at the BSR.

COMPETITION DYNAMICS and BURRIS OPTICS present The
2018 BURRIS OPTICS TEAM CHALLENGE
June 22-24 at Douglas, WY

This match is an extreme test of practical field shooting of rifles, carbines, and pistols, and supporting activities. Two-man teams will be required to navigate rugged desert / mountainous terrain, recognize, locate, range, and engage challenging rifle targets from compromised shooting positions, communicate with their partner and the range officer (RO), and do it under time constraints.

Some quotes from 2011 competitors:

"Hoser" Freeman - This has got to be one of the funnest and toughest matches I have ever shot. Mike and I finished each field course completely drenched in sweat and heart pounding. Trying to find that wall of how hard to push movement and still being able to settle in to shoot was a great challenge. The night stages were deceptively tough and the assault stages were brutal and fun. The prize table was awesome. Hard to imagine it was all set up well into well after most all companies had done their budgets for the year. Huge thanks to all the companies that supported this match and us shooters. The scoring was perfect. No issues, no drama. I cant wait for next year. Bring it.

Mike Kolar (SRM Match Director) - "I'm really excited about this match -- I want to shoot it again right now!"

FCB on SnipersHide.com - "This was by far the best match I've ever been to and the best test of a rifleman that I've seen."

Quickdraw40 on SnipersHide.com (Team Pro Plate) - "No square range shooting here folks and you better be in shape. If you have shot Steel Safari, this was like Steel Safari on crack with super cool side matches thrown in for fun. Organized well, no drama, super quick scoring, and an amazing prize table. "

The Competition Dynamics TEAM CHALLENGE has been ongoing since 2011. Over that history it's had TBAC, USO, and BURRIS as title sponsors, and has hopped venues once. The concept is one we'd been tossing around for some years: Shoot a significant part of a STEEL-SAFARI-like course in a big time block, but do it for points and time together. Then in the afternoons, shoot a whole bunch of hard and fun assault-style courses for a combination of carbine(s), rifle, and pistols. Over the years night stages have been in and out depending on venue and timing.

Accept no substitutes, shoot the original TEAM CHALLENGE.

You and your partner will undergo tests involving: land navigation; practical shooting with long-range rifle, carbine, and pistols; fieldcraft; problem solving; and other related tasks. Two-man teams will be required to navigate 30-60+ miles on foot to complete the course. Along the way, there will be a series of tasks to accomplish to gain additional points. These tasks may include: shooting problems with long-range rifle, carbine, and pistols; problem-solving; physical challenges; fieldcraft; communication; target recognition; memory; and other tasks. The SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE is dedicated to the memory of DARRIN FINK, our good friend and fellow shooter.

The SNIPER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE has been going since 2012. It is an unique event in its scope and difficulty, and the largest and most successful of the tactical-style adventure events. After competing in the 2012 event, one semi-pro adventure racer commented that it was, "Harder than the Death Race." Winners have included active-duty elite military soldiers, retired military, and civilian adventure racers.

COMPETITION DYNAMICS presents The
2018 TEAM SAFARI
Oct 19-21 at Logan, NM

The TEAM Safari

This is a team "hike-and-shoot" rifle match for long-range rifle, semi-auto "carbine," and pistols. It will test a 2-man team's ability to locate, range, and engage practical targetry spread in the terrain using both weapons systems. Some of the skills involved include target recognition, ranging, wind doping, ballistic data management, marksmanship under field conditions, non-standard shooting positions, rudimentary trail skills. You can think of the Team Safari as a Team version of the Steel Safari. This match is much easier physically than the TBTC and is more on-par with the Steel Safari.

The TEAM SAFARI is an offshoot of the STEEL SAFARI. In 2015, we moved the TEAM CHALLENGE from NM to WY and moved it earlier in the year. This left us an open time slot in the autumn at the Blue Steel Ranch for a new match. We decided on a format that was less physical than the Team Challenge (no movement on the clock), but still had the hard field rifle and carbine shooting, and was super fun for teams to shoot. Hence, the TEAM SAFARI.

Accept no substitutes, shoot the original TEAM SAFARI.
