My wife and I are going to be shooting and RO’ing this match. This is a bucket list match for us. One of our favorite states.

Just curious who shot this last year. If you have any insights into the location, terrain, lodging, and the match in general. Especially if you RO’d. curious how shooting 24 stages in one day went for you 😂.

Seems like a decent drive out to the match location every morning. Might stay in portales or Clovis. There doesn’t seem to be much in the way of camping/lodging up toward the actual match location.

Stoked to go though! If you have any insights to share, please do and if you’re attending then I look forward to meeting you.

Justin worked a special rate with a couple of hotels in Clovis.

Worth a check.

I shot it last year. The terrain on the first day was pretty flat pretty easy walking but it was vey warm and humid. I’m in good shape and stay well hydrated and I was cramping the end of the first day. Second was a little bit more challenging but nothing crazy again very warm. Stay hydrated for sure. Lodging I stayed at some place that wasn’t anything I would recommend but there was a rodeo in town last year so it was kinda take what you can get. Doing an Airbnb this year. It’s a great match and awesome venue.

The match sucks. I RO'd it last year. It's hot, there's no shade, no even semi-soft places to sit while you're waiting.

I'm shooting it as a competitor this year though, so I guess it can't be that bad. ROing it is an absolute beating, carry your own water and pace yourself. last year the second area was worse from a terrain standpoint and the fact that you shot it in the last half of the day. I'm no ultra athlete for sure, I made it through but really probably mailed it in on probably the last 4ish stages just to be done.

I'd bring some form of shade/cover for your sat/sun.

Clovis is ~40 min from the location, best place to stay.

This match needs a weekend swap to the beginning of the season real bad imho.

Water is the most important thing, I shot it as a RO last year, will likely do the same this year.

I saw temps of 108* on the back side. I don’t recommend a carbon barrel if you’re gonna shoot 24 stages in that heat with a 6.5prc.

RO'd last year. was brutal getting through all 24 stages. RO'ing again this year. One guy in my squad went down and did not finish the match.

No tips really. Tough to find targets if light sucks. Winds werent horrible.

As mentioned little to no shade. Carry your own water. Wasnt horrible tho.

Had one 0. Didnt find a target. THere was only 1 target. Perfectly blended. Wasnt even far. First 10 shooters didnt fire a shot on that stage. Thats the downfall of shooting as RO. Have to start early and finish late. Lighting sucks.

I enjoyed the match overall.

Thinking we are going to Airbnb as well. Was gonna camp but don’t think I want to in that heat. Definitely looking forward to it. We will see you out there!

Thanks for the input. Think we are gonna get out there a few days early and get settled/aclimated. Definitely gonna bring a quick tent for Saturday Sunday. Right on man, we will see you out there.
