Before I try loading 208 AMAXs in m .308 and my 300 WSM, I want to know if I might run into issues getting them to fit in the AICS/accurate-mags that I use? I am not interested in buying alpha mags. I realize that these are pretty long bullets and I typically try to load 0.010"-0.020" from the lands.

In case it matters, both my barrels are 1/10 twist. I am able to be 0.010" from the lands with a COL of 2.840" for my .308 using 168 BTHPs. My 300 WSM is being trued and rebarreled at the moment, but I gave the 'smith special instructions to notch the feed ramp.

Also, what's a good starting point for the 208 with .308 and Varget, ~ 39 grains? What about the 300 WSM with 4831sc, 63gr?

    Appreciate the help.

The 208AMAX has a secant ogive, so I was unable to touch the lands in my chamber when loaded to AICS mag length. They shot pretty good nevertheless jumping a good bit. I had good results with about 45grs of H414.

They jump just fine out of AICS mags in my setup.
Without checking my notes I think I started at 38.0grns Varget and worked up.
I settled on 41.4grns, .020" short of max mag length.

    Good luck!

I'm at .005" off the lands with 41.3 of varget. I think 2.967" if im not mistaken.I started jammed into the lands and tested yesterday stepping back .005" at a time. Did not really see much of a difference between touching and .030". My bet would be that you might be good back to mag length. I still need to test it for
My rifle, but from what I've seen, it looks promising. The Alpha mags have been getting good feedback lately and the price is right. The ten rounder is definitely on my short list of stuff to buy.

    Ask LCDR about those mags.

This seems promising...glad to know that lots of other shooters have had success with these within AI mag length. Wondering if I'll get better performance than with the 168s I've been using. Bummer that they seem to be hard to come by at the moment...perhaps I'll need to settle on BTHPs for now.

You shouldn't have any problem with running the 208gr. AMAX in any of those cartridges with AI mags. I recommend RL17 for both, you can get pretty good velocity out of the 308 and absolutely killer velocities out of the 300, max for the 300 should be around 64.5-65 if you run em at mag length.
